Australia will look to continue their unbeaten run and recent dominance over New Zealand at the Women’s World T20. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage of 11am (AEDT).
The Aussies are stamping their authority as the best team in the world at this tournament.
After dominating in series against New Zealand and Pakistan on the way in to the World Cup, they have been strong in their first two outings, crunching both Pakistan and Ireland.
Alyssa Healy has been in great form, with Australia racking up 165 runs against Pakistan, before cruising past Ireland’s modest total of 93 in under ten overs.
Healy hit the fastest women’s half-century in the last match, and with that sort of form alongside a dangerous Aussie batting order including Ellyse Perry and Meg Lanning, there can be few questions about the Australian team and their favouritism for the World Cup.
They can book their spot in the knockout rounds here as well, and it was all Australia when these sides met in a three-match T20 series earlier this year, with the Aussies thumping New Zealand in Brisbane, Sydney and Canberra.
New Zealand will be under extreme pressure here. They lost their tournament opener to India, failing to chase down a monster score of 194.
In the women’s game, 194 is just about unheard of, and a score which raises eyebrows. While it showed the form of India, it’s also brought the New Zealand bowling issues – which troubled them in Australia – to a head.
Despite the efforts of Lea Tahuhu, who took 3 for 18 from three overs, the rest of their attack was poor and will need to step up against an in-form Aussie batting line-up.
The New Zealand batting is their strength if it gets going, and while they fell short against India, scoring 160 is nothing to be ashamed of. Suzie Bates is a powerhouse at the top of the order and has more runs than any women in the history of T20 cricket, while wicketkeeper Katie Martin and captain Amy Satterthwaite also bring plenty of talent to the middle order.
Prediction
The Australians had the wood over New Zealand at home earlier this year and should do so again here. It’s hard to see the Kiwis fighting back, and they will slump to what is a dangerous second loss on the trot to open their tournament.
Australia pretty comfortably.

Good performance from Aussies to respond to some pressure at around the 12 over mark. You'd think that, against India, England or the WI, a bigger total will be needed. Nevertheless, they are into the semi's. Thanks for the call Scott.

AUSTRALIA DEFEAT NEW ZEALAND BY 34 RUNS Australia have beaten New Zealand in their third Women's World T20 match by 34 runs in Guyana to book their spot in the semi-finals. The Australians got off to a cracking start with the bat as Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney put on a great opening stand. Despite that, regular wickets during the second half of the innings ensured they finished somewhat short of the mark they would have liked to have ended up on. A great bowling performance meant New Zealand never got close in reply though. Early wickets had them in all sorts, with only Suzie Bates and Katey Martin putting on any sort of resistance. Australia: 7/153 (20) New Zealand: 10/120 (17.3)

WICKET! Amelia Kerr, Caught Rachael Haynes, Bowled Sophie Molineux 3 (4) Well, that will wrap that up. Shocking ball from Molineux, but Kerr has chased it and gone to play behind point, but hit it on the up with Haynes taking a great left-handed catch. Over: 17.3 New Zealand: 10/120 Target: 154

Molineux to bowl her final over, so no sign of Perry. She goes around the wicket, darting this into the pads of Tahuhu who grabs a single behind square leg. Over: 17.1 New Zealand: 9/119 Target: 154

WICKET! Hannah Rowe, Bowled Megan Schutt 4 (8) Well, three singles are followed by a wicket. There was a dropped catch amongst that, but Rowe comes charging down the track with a swing and a miss. The ball tails into the top of the off stump. Over: 16.5 New Zealand: 9/118 Target: 154

WICKET! Leigh Kasperek, Caught Rachael Haynes, Bowled Megan Schutt 12 (7) Gone! Kasperek had no choice. She comes charging down the wicket and tries to hit it over point with the cut shot away from her body, but ends up picking out Haynes at backward point. Just couldn't get any power on that. Over: 16.1 New Zealand: 8/115 Target: 154

Things will get away from New Zealand here if they don't keep scoring. Single for Kasperek, then Rowe misses one off the pads. Over: 15.4 New Zealand: 7/113 Target: 154

Fuller, just a little bit more pace this time. Rowe grabs a quick single to mid off. Over: 15.2 New Zealand: 7/112 Target: 154

Kimmince to bowl. She takes the pace off it outside the off stump and Rowe misses the late cut. Over: 15.1 New Zealand: 7/111 Target: 154
