Group B of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 continues as Scotland take on Bangladesh in what could be a thrilling match up. These sides are the favourites to seal qualification into the Super 12 part of the competition and both know a winning start is crucial to their campaign. Join The Roar for live scores from 1am (AEDT).
Scotland had an unexpectedly bumpy qualification for this World Cup, winning just three from six of their games in the 2019 Qualifier tournament. This was a surprise given they were the highest-ranked side heading into the competition but they’ve made it to the big dance and that’s what matters.
This is their second T20 World Cup but after being knocked out in the first round in 2016, they will want to have more success this time round.
Crucial to those chances of success is their opener George Munsey. He scored 234 runs in eight matches in the qualifiers and with a strike rate of 155 he is a serious threat to any bowling attack. He’s got great touch and real power as demonstrated perfectly when he hit 127 not out off just 56 balls against Netherlands in 2019.
Bangladesh will look at Group A and feel that they really should walk through it with three straight wins and sail into the Super 12s. They are ranked 6th in the world going into the World Cup and had a fantastic series win over Australia just a couple of months ago when they won a five-match series 4-1.
With Bangladeshi hero Tamim Iqbal not going to the World Cup as he tries to recover from knee surgery, a lot of pressure and expectation will fall on the shoulders of all rounder Shakib Al Hasan. The 34-year-old is his country’s highest run-scorer in the format and has a strike rate of over 120. With his slow left arm bowling he also regularly picks up key wickets and can keep opponents tied down when they are desperate to accelerate their innings.

Some good blows in the last over but Scotland complete a famous victory by 6 runs!! They were absolutely gone at 6/53 but a sensational innings by Chris Greaves with support from the lower order dragged the Scots to a competitive score. A superb team bowling performance then restricted Bangladesh. Greaves had the match of his life with his leggies also accounting for both Shakib and Mushfiqur.

54 needed off the last 5 overs. It is tight. Greaves with the ball.

Greaves strikes with first ball to break the partnership. A rank long hop is belted by Shakib but a great running catch from MacLeod in the deep.

Big moment in the game. Mushfiqur hit in front by Davey. Huge appeal given not out. Coetzer reviews but it remains umpire’s call. That would have reduced Bangladesh to 3/19.

Sarkar repeats his lovely shot from the 1st over but they’ve got a deep mid wicket this time who takes it easily.

All rounder Chris Greaves picked for his leg spin bowling here, played an outstanding innings of 45, the highlight an outrageous reverse for six. Scotland, having slumped to 6/53 thus ended with a respectable 9/140. Probably not enough but it will be an interesting 2nd innings.
