The slow-starting Brisbane Heat will host the Hobart Hurricanes at Metricon Stadium on Saturday night. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match from 7pm AEDT.

Brisbane opened their BBL|08 campaign on Wednesday night, tackling the Adelaide Strikers at the Gabba in the first match of the season.

It was a poor start for the Heat who managed 146 runs, including a 45 run tenth wicket partnership by Jimmy Pierson and 17-year-old Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

Heat captain Chris Lynn contributed with 33 runs off 20 balls, before being caught at long on by Michael Neser, bowled Peter Siddle.

The Hobart Hurricanes have a new coach – Adam Griffith – and a new captain – Matthew Wade – but a very similar and consistent squad to the one that finished runner-up last season.

English quick Tymal Mills is notably absent from the Hurricanes’ squad; he picked up a hamstring injury in a practice match and will miss the Saturday night game.

In 2017, the Hurricanes beat the Heat twice on their road to the BBL|07 final.

Metricon Stadium was recently transformed for the third time this year, with a drop-in pitch put in place. The venue hosted Australia and South Africa for a rain-affected International T20 game last month.

Prediction
Last year’s runners up are hard to go past here. The Hurricanes have a strong squad with the fire power to hammer another dent into the start of Brisbane’s campaign.

Hurricanes to open their season with a win.

Tune into The Roar for live coverage of the fifth BBL|08 match, starting at 7pm AEDT.

159 runs was enough for the Hurricanes this evening, they put the pressure on at the end to really kill the match, but again Brisbane struggled to get firing with the bat, apart from the brilliant effort by Cutting (58 off 32 balls). Cutting top scored (58), Bryant was exciting with 30 runs off 15 balls, and Lynn contributed again with a slow 29 off 37. Faulkner finished with 3 wickets, Archer 2, Botha 2, Meredith 2. Plenty of catches in the deep for the Hurricanes, Doolan got four, including a couple of brilliant efforts.

Heat have been completely clueless when it comes to the balance of the team. For quite a few years now there hasn’t been the no.7,8 balance of bowlers who can bat. Just look at the Hurricanes with an absolutely excellent balance with the likes of Faulkner,Botha ,Archer all bowlers that are very capable with the bat!!! Not blaming this game on lack of bowler batting depth the middle order didnt enough and Ross should come in for Hazlett. Thanks for the call Sarah great work.
