In a clash with only pride on the line, the Brisbane Heat will take on the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage of the match from 8:40pm (AEDT).

At this point, it’d be fair to say the season has been nothing short of a disaster for both the Heat and Scorchers, who are out of finals contention with a handful of games to go.

This could well be a fight for the wooden spoon if form stays true to script, with both teams having three wins from their eleven games, and the sixth-placed Strikers now two wins clear after a big win over the Hurricanes last night.

The Queensland club have had major problems with their batting throughout the eighth season of BBL cricket. While the top order is strong on paper, Chris Lynn and Brendon McCullum haven’t fired, and it’s been telling with a weak middle order unable to salvage things more often than not.

That’s where the big fight in this game appears to be as well, with the Scorchers few wins coming on the back of good new ball bowling from players like Jason Behrendorff and Andrew Tye.

If they start strongly with the ball, then the same problems are likely to rear their ugly head for the Heat.

The other thing the Heat must adress is their bowling tactics. The criminal underuse of Mitchell Swepson, and poor powerplay bowling of spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman has been a killer for the franchise.

If that continues here, then the Scorchers, with players like Shaun Marsh and Cameron Bancroft at the top of the order, should be able to capitalise.

Last time out for the Scorchers, they took on the Renegades though and capitulated at the top of the order, falling to just 79.

Once things have gone pear-shaped for them this season, it’s been an impossible job recovering, so they need to be better at the top of the order tonight.

The loss makes it three on the trot for Perth, while the Heat have lost three of their last four and were struggling in an eventual no result against the Thunder.

Prediction
This game has a wooden spoon bowl feel to it, so, despite ladder positions, there is still plenty on the line. I get the feeling the Heat have more X-Factor players at the top of the order though, and either Lynn or McCullum is overdue to go big. At home, I’ll take the Heat.

I would love be at the WACA's season ending review! Adam shouldn't have been given the coaching gig, he should have been made to do an apprenticeship first. Too many overseas player duds with recruiting. Wiley does he bat or bowl, or is an allrounder? Qadir looks unfit and overweight, hope he doesn't get his contract renewed. He's a truely shocking expensive spin bowler. Klinger should have retired at the end of last season, M Marsh has been out of form for awhile now, Agar has been injured, Tye has been worked out by opposition batsman.

Yeah... a combination of things I think. Young coach to close to his former team mates. Something up with Tye. Lost players to injury,eg. Agar, and international duties,eg. Richardson. Players coming in mid season sans T20 form, Marsh brothers. James Brayshaw commentating some of our games.

Cheers Scott for blogging this game. Thoughts? hmmm... it has reflected our, Scorchers, season. The new bloods did well tonight, happy for them to front up on Sunday. Time to move on from the Marsh brothers... sounds a bit harsh I guess, but need new blood. Lynn, again, showed us an exciting batting display.

BRISBANE HEAT DEFEAT PERTH SCORCHERS BY SIX WICKETS WITH 15 BALLS TO SPARE The Brisbane Heat have won their first home game of the 2018-19 Big Bash League season after a commanding performance over the Perth Scorchers to go clear of the wooden spoon, for now. The Heat started strongly with a flurry of early wickets from their spinners, as Matt Renshaw, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Matt Kuhnemann reduced the Scorchers to 3 for 17 at one point during the powerplay. Nick Hobson and Cameron Bancroft steadied the ship for the Scorchers, but a late innings hat-trick from Josh Lalor would ensure they were kept to a very chasable 129. It was a solid start to the chase from the Heat, who opened with Ben Cutting alongside Max Bryant. The Cutting experiment failed though, and while Jason Behrendorff and Matt Kelly kept the visitors in with a chance of winning, they were eventually blown off the park by Chris Lynn, who finished the game with a monster six over square leg, finishing on 56 not out. The Heat are still the slimmest of mathematical chances of making the finals, but it will require a miracle for them to get there. Perth Scorchers: 9/128 (20) Brisbane Heat: 4/130 (17.3)

Tye has been such an awesome player for the Scorchers... but it looks like he is either fatigued or head not in it this season.

SIX! Brisbane Heat win Lynn goes HUGE! Halfway down from Tye, and Lynn has absolutely clobbered that over square leg into the grandstand. Went high, but it went long, and that'll do the job for the Heat. Over: 17.3 Brisbane Heat: 4/130 Target: 129

FOUR Well, that's some sort of an edge. Tye is back, going on a length, and Ross has managed to get the top edge sailing over Bancroft and away to the fence. Over: 17.1 Brisbane Heat: 4/123 Target: 129

Hinchliffe goes shorter now and Ross pushes it back to him in the follow through. Heat won't want to take this to the last over. Over: 16.2 Brisbane Heat: 4/114 Target: 129
