It’s a rematch of the 2021 T20 World Cup semi-final as England take on New Zealand knowing anything other than a win would leave their semi-final hopes out of their hands. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7pm (AEDT).

England have had a strange tournament so far, especially considering they entered as one of the favourites to ultimately lift the cup in Melbourne.

They won against Afghanistan easily but somehow also not quite convincingly, and then followed it up with a shock loss against the Irish.

The English batting stocks are under some pressure to start firing again; captain Jos Buttler has been low on runs compared to his usual output and his run of form coming into the World Cup, while Ben Stokes has also been struggling of late.

Something drastic will have to change for the English batsman as they’re set to come up against a bowling attack that has plenty of arguments for being the best in this World Cup.

New Zealand have got themselves into the box seat of Group 1 on the back of two absolutely clinical performances with bat and ball. After kicking the tournament off with a demolishing of the host nation Australia and then having a game washed out, they continued to show their sublime form against a Sri Lanka team that had been troublesome to other opposition so far in the tournament.

And it’s not just one player doing it all: it was Devon Conway and Finn Allen getting New Zealand off to a great start with the bat in the first game, and then Glenn Phillips against Sri Lanka. He came in when the team was 2/7 and then rebuilt the innings, single-handedly getting the Black Caps to a respectable 167 on the back of his imperious 104.

Trent Boult and Tim Southey have shown us yet again that they may be one of the most underappreciated bowling duos of all time: Southee already has four wickets in the tournament and Boult has five.

But it’s not just the New Zealand opening bowlers – Lockie Ferguson, Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi have backed up Boult and Southee amazingly well, and been up to the difficult task of taking wickets through the middle overs and still being quite economical.

Prediction

New Zealand have been all-around imperious throughout the tournament so far, and there is simply no weak spot in their game. Even their fielding has been clinical.

It’s hard to see them losing against an English team that are yet to hit their straps in this tournament, especially against that bowling attack.

Remember, Finch said he's not concerned about run rate. We got the results the selectors chose a team for. We got the leader they wanted. We just didn't get the team the World Cup needed.

Easy win to England in a good game. Kane Williamson didn't appear to up to the challenge. 40 off 40 balls cost NZ a potential win. He seems to be going the Aaron Finch way, to old to slow. But he is a test batsman.

19.6 Curran to Santner; 1 run. Another great yorker squeezed out down the ground to long-on and Sam Curran lets out a loud yell of glee even before the ball was fielded.

19.5 Curran to Santner; 0 runs. Short ball that gets up quite high but not too high says the umpire and gets through to Buttler.

19.2 Curran to Sodhi; 1 run. A bit slower and wider outside off and Sodhi just heaves it out to the deep midwicket fielder.

I'm assuming Australia is stuffed after this result - can't say we deserve to be there anyway - Kiwis have been exposed a bit tonight - will be hoping anyone apart from England will win the Cup from here - but they are looking as strong as India, SA and NZ. Should be a couple of exciting semi finals.

19.1 Curran to Sodhi; 0 runs. Gets the ball to just pass by the outside edge as Sodhi takes a huge swing. NZ have accepted the game's over for them and are just trying to mitigate NRR damage now.

18.6 Woakes to Santner; 6 runs. Santner gets across his stumps and then just clubs a shot with a pure swing arc to get it up and over the long-on boundary in style. NZ are 154/6 and need 26 off the last over.

Terrible result for Australia. England win, and NZ don't get belted, while England will increase the NRR deficit to a point Australia won't bridge.

18.3 Woakes to Sodhi; 1 run. Short ball that cramps Sodhi for room and the pull shot ricochets into the body.

18.1 Woakes to Sodhi; 1 run. Back of a length slower ball and Sodhi just chips it down the ground with a cross bat shot that he miscues.

17.6 Curran to Sodhi; 1 run. Another one where he keeps the batsman cramped for room and Sodhi can only manage to push it down the ground. NZ are 140/6
