Sri Lanka face South Africa in Match 35 of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 7:30pm (AEST).

Chester-Le-Street is the venue for this clash between Sri Lanka and South Africa. The teams meet at the Riverside Ground, overlooked by Lumley Castle, believed to be one of the most haunted places in County Durham. Many a visiting cricketer has told tales of sleepless nights in the now 73-bed-roomed hotel.

South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis will have had plenty of restless nights lately. His side have bundled from one defeat to another in this tournament, and a 49-run loss to Pakistan last Sunday finally ended the Proteas’ hopes.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, approach this match with a spring in their step having stunned England at Headingley last week. Dimuth Karunaratne’s side have an outside chance of reaching the semi-finals at the hosts’ expense.

The Lankans have been given permission by the ICC to wear their second choice kit for their remaining games. The 1996 champions will stick with the yellow shirts they wore against England, which they consider to be lucky.

Ghost stories and superstitions? Maybe we’re in for an otherworldly match tonight.

Prediction
South Africa are playing for pride after a miserable World Cup campaign. Sri Lanka are still alive in the tournament and the prospect of stealing a semi-final spot will surely help not hinder.

If Sri Lanka are playing in their lucky kit, that’s good enough for me.

Sri Lanka to win.
