The Sydney Sixers will take on the Perth Scorchers in the early stages of the BBL08 as both look to get off to good starts and build some momentum in these key early games. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 3:20pm (AEDT).

This is the Sixers debut in this season’s competition and they will be looking to both well established players and new imports to set the season alight from day 1.

In last season’s competition they had a shocker to begin with losing their first six games before rescuing some sort of pride with four wins.

Fans and the coach will be looking to Daniel Hughes, Josh Philippe and Moises Henriques to provide the runs and there are some exciting new team mates with English Tom Curran able to deliver with both bat and ball.

Despite being the most successful team in Big Bash history, the Scorchers started this season with a surprising loss to the Melbourne Renegades.

Their batting really didn’t fire at all as they limped to just over one hundred – a total that was never going to be a challenge to run down for the Melbourne side.

However they are still a quality side and the bowling department impressed against the Renegades.

Prediction
The Sixers will have the home advantage and hopefully it’s a passionate local crowd at the SCG to cheer on their team.

The Scorchers are a quality side and it’s unlikely that their batting line up is going to struggle as badly two games in a row.

This could be a tight one but the Scorchers are just going to sneak it.

Sydney Sixers win by 17 runs! That's a really good win for the Sixers against one of the better sides in BBL8. They batted well after a wobble to begin with and then were very sharp in the field and their bowlers did a great job - lots of encouraging signs for the season ahead for the Sixers and their fans. For the Scorchers this is now 2 losses from their first 2 games and while it's not panic time yet they will be a bit frustrated. The fielding wasn't as good as it should be and their batting never really fired. It's still early days for sure but they will need to sort out their batting quickly.

FINAL OVER! So the Scorchers need 28 from the final 6 balls from Curran. And that's not a great start - Curran drops the speed hugely and Richardson has swung and missed. Over 19.1 Scorchers 8/137 More required 28

RUN OUT!!!!! Cartwright has gone and you'd have to say that's the end for the Scorchers! It was a no ball from Curran and Cartwright was trying to get back on strike so he could take advantage but he was short by about 6 inches. Over 17.4 Scorchers 6/126 More required 39

Curran back into the attack and a lovely slower ball has totally confused Nathan Coulter-Nile as he tries to smash it, misses and the ball bounces just over middle stump. Over 17.1 Scorchers 6/121 More required 44

Cartwright on strike and he's left that one alone having been deceived quite nicely by Abbott. I think Cartwright thought that was wide. Over 16.5 Scorchers 6/119 More required 46
