The Sydney Thunder will be gunning for their fifth win of the BBL season when they take on the Melbourne Renegades in a top-four battle at Homebush. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 7:15pm (AEDT).
This is an extremely important game for two teams who are in the finals picture, but need victories over the final part of the season to secure it.
The Renegades currently sit third with five wins to their name, but have played one more game than every other team except the Sydney Sixers, meaning the pressure on them over the final weeks of the season and each of their remaining matches is immense.
With nothing in the ladder (the Sixers jumped from sixth to second with a single win on Sunday night), the Renegades may well need to win three of their final four to be assured of playing knockout cricket in February.
The Thunder aren’t in the best of positions either, but do have the extra game up their sleeve.
They have four wins to their name from nine games to sit fourth with a superior net run rate, but will be frustrated by their last start which ended in a no result, when they were miles on top against the Brisbane Heat.
That win would have bumped them slightly clear of the chasing pack and made the challenge a fraction easier to the end of the season, For now, they have nine points and will need more wins.
The Thunder have been strong at the top of the order, with Anton Devcich faultlessly taking over from Jos Buttler and Shane Watson continuing to hit the ball well, scoring a century in that game against the Heat.
If those two can get off to another good start and their strong spin attack of Arjun Nair and Fawad Ahmed can continue their run, the Renegades will struggle.
The Renegades do have the benefit of Aaron Finch and Marcus Harris at the top of the order, but they need big results, given the rest of the team have been a little inconsistent.
Prediction
The Thunder are back at home, and while the toss will have some impact with the team bowling second always at an advantage on an unpredictable best, the addition of Jason Sangha who returns from the CA XI game in Hobart should be enough to see them over the line.
Sydney Thunder to take win number five.

Devich, Watson, green, Sams - 10 runs off 20 balls. That’s where the game was lost. Good knock by Sangha.

The BBL ladder looks like: 1) Hurricanes 2) Renegades 3) Sixers 4) Thunder 5) Strikers 6) Stars 7) Heat 8) Scorchers

Lets be honest, it was Aaron Finch, and his 54 off 38 when his team were in a bad spot which won it for the 'Gades, and that puts them deep into the top 4.

Lenton pulls it away, on the bounce to the fielder for one. Thunder are 5/122 off 18.0 overs chasing the Renegades' 9/152 (31 off 12).

Dot ball! That's critical, 32 off 13.

Am just curious as to why Lenton didn't bat higher.
