Don't 'overdo' day-night Tests, Starc tells cricket world

By The Roar / Editor

Australian fast bowler Mitch Starc hopes red-ball cricket remains the standard form for Tests despite his stunning record with the pink ball.

After picking up seven wickets in the second Test against Pakistan, Starc was once again a handful under the lights as he ripped through the Black Caps batting order, jagging 4/31 in the final session on Day 2 to put the Aussies in control.

However describing himself as a “traditionalist”, Starc told reporters that while it’s good for the game, he hopes cricketing bodies don’t “overdo” the day-night concept for Tests.

SCG Trust chairman Tony Shepherd has admitted he is interested in the iconic ground hosting its first-ever pink-ball Test.

It was interesting that Michael Vaughan felt ALL of the Tests in the next Ashes series should be played under lights. His reasoning was simple - the last two visits by an England side to Australia have resulted in a 5 nil & 4 nil hiding. The only time they were competitive was under lights in Adelaide, so have 5 pink ball Tests, from that perspective, makes sense.

Agree Mitch. I believe they should play it for entertainment purposes only.
