I think with both instances it is splitting hairs to call no-balls, especially if they have to use a slow mo replay to do it. A cricket pitch is 20,120 mm long, so a fraction of a solitary mm does not gain a bowler an unfair advantage and that is the purpose of the law in the first place. As my Year 11/12 legal studies teacher a good 30 years ago would always say, when a judge (in a courtroom) is making a judgment call on applying the letter of the law v the spirit of the law, he or she should ask themselves “What mischief did this particular statute intend to stamp out?”
