Agree, it is harder to get dropped than to get picked. However the Michael Clarke/Warner/Lehmann ‘Boys club’ culture is fading away

He's right. There needs to be accountability. You take a bold gamble and it fails, you need to pay. The sensible choice was putting a proven opener in Joe Burns in as opener.
