The NRLW has arrived, and it’ll be the Sydney Roosters and New Zealand Roosters to get things underway at Homebush. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 3:05pm (AEST).

Being such a short competition between just four teams (the other two are the Dragons and Broncos), every game is crucial, and starting off with a win will be the key to advancing to grand final day.

Matches being just 60 minutes in length as well, starting off quickly will be crucial.

The Roosters come into the match as favourites, and it’s little surprise when you cast an eye over their squad with plenty of familiar faces for those who watched the Jillaroos World Cup success last year.

Maddie Sutton and Lavina O’mealey form the halves, while Isabelle Kelly and Karina Brown will form a lethal combination on one edge, with Vanessa Foliaki and Zahara Temara also on the park. And that’s without even mentioning Simaima Taufa in the first row.

The Roosters are littered with talent across the squad and could well go onto take out the whole competition in its inaugural year, especially when you add Ruan Sims to the team from next week.

Most of the Warriors squad have been sourced from the Black Ferns squad. 18 of their 22 players in the squad have international experience, with veteran Laura Mariu leading the way and controlling things out of the halves.

They had a convincing trial win back at home last weekend over an Auckland-based team and as is the case with the Black Ferns at international level, they are going to be incredibly hard to beat up front.

If the Warriors can come out and play strongly, dominating the middle, it might set things up nicely for Mariu to take control of the game, but that would appear to be their best chance of beating the Sydney-based club in the opener.

Prediction
Even without Sims, the trip across the Tasman and the talents of O’mealey and Studdon in the halves should be the enough to get the Roosters over the line.

Roosters by 6.

Thanks for joining me this afternoon on The Roar for our live coverage of the first ever NRLW game between the Sydney Roosters and New Zealand Warriors. Hopefully you enjoyed the call. I'll be back tomorrow afternoon for more NRLW as the Broncos host the Dragons. First though, we have two huge NRL finals to get through this evening. First it'll be John Coomer with the Panthers and Warriors at 5:30pm (AEST), then, I'll be on with the Roosters and Sharks at 7:40pm (AEST). See you all then!

The Roosters will now need to win both of their remaining games to have a shot at making the final. The Warriors have taken some of the pressure off with that win.

FULLTIME The Warriors will run down the clock and, on the road, they have upset the Roosters to become the first winners of the NRLW! Great victory that. They dominated the contest in the forwards and completely earnt their victory with a scoreless second half. The Roosters will be frustrated, but with a stack of penalties and errors, it's tough to win footy games. Roosters 4 Warriors 10

60' - The Roosters go short side now from Studdon to Kelly and she has BEEN ABSOLUTELY SMASHED! Laura Mariu hits Kelly right as she gets the ball and now it will be time off. Kelly is not in a good way at all here. Still down on the ground with 20 seconds to go. Roosters 4 Warriors 10

59' - The Roosters back over halfway on the second play here and then it's Walton with an offload to Caldwell who is 30 out on the third. Into the final 60 seconds now, with Studdon to O'Mealey who is smoked. 6 again, 50 seconds on the clock. Roosters 4 Warriors 10

58' - Into the final three minutes we go. Hilda Mariu brings it up the middle, then it's a strong run from Clark. Laura Mariu takes the line on next, then Noble goes over halfway on the fourth finding some space on the right. Back to the middle for Vailea, but she drops it 30 out. The Roosters will have 70 metres to go. Just under 2 minutes. This will be their final chance. Roosters 4 Warriors 10

57' - Vette-Welsh up the middle for the Roosters, before Caldwell beats the line and goes over halfway, unable to find support. They continue down the right through Brown and now, two plays left from 30 out. Great run from Taufa. On the last now it's across to Studdon, then Temara and O'Mealey for Kelly who finds Simon on the wing. She beats one, passes inside and the Roosters make a mistake again! Roosters 4 Warriors 10

56' - The Warriors now making a stack of metres back down this right side of the ground. Third play and they are over halfway, before Papali'i is shut down. Now they go the left and there is a suspect pass to Veainu who slips over. Final play and the kick is crossfield with Simon running onto it, then finding Kelly who is dragged to ground. 54' - Taufa-Kautai has the first run of this set for the Roosters, then it's Caldwell up the middle. They go to the right from Maynard to Temara, before Maynard picks out O'Mealey with Foliaki then stopped ten out. They continue short side and the tackle is made a few metres out. Back to the left now from Studdon to Welsh and Kelly then puts down a long pass. Roosters 4 Warriors 10

53' - Looks like Simon has a dislocated finger, but will stay on the ground with a strapped up hand. The Roosters defence now starting to push the Warriors back here, trying to get an attacking chance before the end. Two plays left and the Warriors still short of halfway. They run it on the last and wow. Must have lost count. Goga takes the tackle and the Roosters have a full set on halfway. Roosters 4 Warriors 10

52' - Well inside the last ten minutes here as Vette-Welsh takes a run up the middle. They come to halfway through Kelly, then it's right for Walton who spins out of one, but not a second. Two plays left and Togatuki takes it forward. Final play with a chip from Studdon which is allowed to bounce, but Nicholls brings it away. Roosters 4 Warriors 10

51' - The Warriors struggling for metres a little bit here, but a good run from Papali'i gets them to halfway on the fourth. They have one more run to the left, then the bomb goes from Mariu down the ground to Simon who comes charging back. Roosters 4 Warriors 10

50' - Walton takes tackle one up the middle, then Latu goes towards halfway. Maynard the next, before Studdon goes right to O'Mealey who then finds Stowers who is tackled 30 out. Two plays left and Temara drops it in a big tackle back to the middle. Temara has had a pretty ordinary day. That's her third error, and the tenth of the day for the Roosters. Roosters 4 Warriors 10

47' - Hilda Mariu stuck in their own 20, with Woodman the same on the next. She then loses it on the ground and that's going to come out of it as a penalty. And oh dear. That is an absolutely woeful decision. Roosters 4 Warriors 10

46' - The Roosters are over halfway on the first play, then Simon comes in off the wing, offloads to Kelly and she goes into a three-woman tackle. They stick down the left now but struggle for ground, before the shift goes from Maynard to Studdon and O'Mealey who goes across to Stowers on the right, but she can't get through. Two plays left and a good run resets the radar for Walton. Final play and it's Studdon dummying, passing to ground, then Kelly goes back to Maynard who rolls one through and the Warriors have to bring it off their own line. Roosters 4 Warriors 10

45' - The Roosters back over halfway in four as things settle into a bit of an arm-wrestle up the middle, but a forward pass to Peters from Rota might hurt the visitors here. Roosters 4 Warriors 10
