BLAST FROM THE PAST: When teen sensation Laurie Daley guided Junee to a Grand Final win

By The Roar / Editor

Laurie Daley was always destined for great things and the Riverina was lucky to witness his skill in the 80s.

As a 17-year-old in 1986 Daley’s boot was the difference as he helped his home town Junee claim its second Group 9 premiership defeating Young 10-6.

Just months later he was playing for the Canberra Raiders and was already good enough to be selected for representative honours in 1988 for NSW Country.

Despite his success, Daley has always remained grounded and makes a point of returning to Junee whenever he gets a free moment.

The Junee Diesels have not won a premiership since Daley was at the club.

Loz was a beauty. It seemed that was a golden era for five eights, Lewis, Kenny, Daley and Lamb .
