Manly Sea Eagles second-rower Joel Thompson has come out in support of Sydney’s Latrell Mitchell after the Rooster was subjected to racial abuse online.
Mitchell posted a screenshot via his Instagram account of a racist comment about him following the Roosters’ four-point victory over the Canberra Raiders, lamenting that it is “2019 and nothing is changing”.
Thompson, who responded to the post online, adding that “the wider community needs to start calling” trolls out, doubled-down on his comments in an interview.
The Indigenous All Stars representative says more has to be done to ensure people are held to account for hate speech.
The NRL Integrity Unit has announced it will investigate the online abuse of Mitchell.

I do not consider I was "Inciting Violence" to be honest . Just calling like I see it as people like Maddock do not have the fortitude to say what he said directly to the persons face....

whoever Jeff Maddock is I truly hope they find him and belt him....and do a good job of it. Latrell Mitchell is a decent human being and does not deserve that sort of thing....No body does to be honest. I also applaud him for the way he has handled it and the support Trent Robinson and his team mates have shown him.... Just love these phone-pad warriors who would never have the guts to say that to the person face to face.....
