INTERVIEW: Rugby World Cup EXCLUSIVE - 'Give Yourself an Uppercut' with Tony Harper & Christy Doran

By The Roar / Editor

The Wallabies left for France yesterday, signalling the start of the final stages of the 2023 Rugby World Cup preparations. But it was not without a dramatic departure, as Chief Editor Tony Harper and Chief Rugby Editor Christy Doran come together.

Good dialogue gents. Both of you. :silly: I was resonant with it all, up until you started your ‘improvement via execution’ sermon again Christy. Dan Carter, our mate Harry, and I disagree. If winning this cup is a ‘thing’ anymore, Eddie had lost the plot before the ‘uppercut’ interview. Who has won a World Cup without a back up ten? Eddie has decided at some point that he couldn’t fulfill on the smash n grab promise, (the one that Rennie was sacked, and he was hired, for) and so he’s decided to run for the corner posts of 2025/27. And he’s forked his tongue all the way. Quade is ‘up there with DC’ has morphed into Quade’s not in our best 50. The Tah reserve 10 is better. With respect gents, Paul Cully’s observations hold more water for me than Eddie’s (and Christy’s) sudden ‘let’s spin on a 5 cent piece around Quade this week’ and speed to the future. Eddie’s airport uppercut was a classic megalomaniac smokescreen. He was disingenuously avoiding scrutiny of an obvious change in policy- “2023 Is toast, we’re developing the future now”. Hamish, Eddie (and possibly Christy) may be underestimating how many Australian rugby fans expect their team to include genuine enabling playmakers when they go to World Cup war. Eddie has increased eyeballs, but how many of us rusted on fans is Eddie losing? Too much media succour is being given to this person who treats his paymasters with contempt. Supporting his contentious policies (like we can develop playmakers and game plans in a WC pool stage) is not helpful, imo. My fearless prediction is that there will be more media uppercuts before the Cup, and that faced with a choice between losing face or an SOS to Quade, Eddie will save face, and lose his job before 2024. Happy to be proven wrong. (Especially about the SOS to our only experienced enabling playmaker).
