The Socceroos will be out to claim their third-straight victory on the road to the 2022 FIFA World Cup when they travel to Kaohsiung to take on Chinese Taipei on Tuesday evening. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 10:40pm (AEDT).

Australia will enter this match as red-hot favourites, as they did last time out when they rolled past Nepal in a 5-0 thumping.

In saying that, the scoreline should have been a lot more. Australia seemed tentative with the football, going back far too often and not executing all that well in the final third.

While it’s hard to gauge where the side are truly at when the disparity of player performance between the two sides was so far apart, Graham Arnold will feel his side should have run up double what they actually did against Nepal.

Three points is three points though, and Australia sit at the top of Group B in the second round of qualification, which, realistically, they should be able to go through without dropping a single game.

Their first performance in qualification for the Cup, a 3-0 win on the road over Kuwait, gives a solid impression of where the Socceroos are at though, and a combined scoreline of 8-0 across their first two games is nothing to be laughed at.

Graham Arnold has indicated there will be changes to the XI tonight, as they look to keep players fresh ahead of a demanding qualification campaign and continue to use the depth in the squad.

Chinese Taipei on the other side, ranked just inside the top 120 in the world, are not expected to go through to the third round of qualification, and their results so far agree with that.

The Taiwanese might be ranked ahead of Nepal on the FIFA rankings, but lost their last game at home to the fellow minnows, and now seem destined to finish last in the group.

That would leave them entering Asian Cup qualification at the earliest possible round, which was hardly the result they were after, even if World Cup qualification was always a distant dream.

Still, they were better than their showing against Nepal suggests, with a 2-1 loss in their opener against Jordan the way they need to play this evening if they are to stay competitive.

Prediction
Just like last time out, Australia really shouldn’t have very many problems. The travel and short turnaround might make for a slightly lower scoreline than there would be at home, but they should have this locked away by the halftime break.

Chinese Taipei 0 – Australia 5.

FULLTIME Australia have thrashed Chinese Taipei 7-1 in their third match on the road to the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Heading away from home in hot and humid conditions, the Australians were clinical at times in attack, although still have plenty of improvement left in them, consistency-wise. The first half brought with it a shock goal for the home side, who were in the match early on, but the goal, brought about by some sloppy defence, a cracking cross and lovely header, seemed to wake Graham Arnold's side up. Australia, who had doubles to Adam Taggart, Jackson Irvine and Harry Souttar, as well as a single goal to substitute Jamie Maclaren, were less clinical in the early part of the second half, but not have three wins from three starts to their name and are firing towards the third round of qualification for the Cup. 90 + 2' - Will Donkin on the attack there for a moment, but he runs into a yellow wall and loses possession. Clearance made, then it's a free kick for the hosts in midfield. Australia 7 Chinese Taipei 1

90' - Donkin's corner at the near post is flat and ordinary. Smith clears with ease and Australia then looked to push out on the counter, before Hrustic gives away a free kick. Three minutes of stoppage time Australia 7 Chinese Taipei 1

89' - Souttar busy attacking, then he has to scramble back and defend as the star, Will Donkin, found some space and wins a corner for his troubles. Australia 7 Chinese Taipei 1

88' - GOAL AUSTRALIA, HARRY SOUTTAR It's fairly difficult to stop Souttar. The man is double the height of just about everyone else. Good delivery on the corner, and Wen-Chieh was all at sea there, coming out, then rushing back. Wouldn't have mattered, because the header from Souttar was class. Australia 7 Chinese Taipei 1

87' - Smith now rolls a ball across the penalty area, but there is no one at the back post. Ball back in, and Smith can't get onto this cross as he puts it wide for a goal kick. Australia 6 Chinese Taipei 1

85' - GOAL AUSTRALIA, JAMIE MACLAREN Well, that always felt like it was coming. Irvine again involved in the set up, passing off the first touch to Maclaren who puts it into the back of the net with a very classy finish. Australia 6 Chinese Taipei 1

82' - The Socceroos now through Irvine again. He fires the aerial ball into the box, and it's over Maclaren, out the other side, controlled by Mabil, then back into the penalty area for Smith, but he was offside. Australia 5 Chinese Taipei 1

81' - That was nicely set up by Mabil there, but the pass just gets out in front of Irvine across the penalty area and is behind for a goalkick. Australia 5 Chinese Taipei 1

78' - SUB: Australia - Jamie Maclaren (on), Adam Taggart (off) Taggart is done for the evening. A good stint from him, and Maclaren will get some minutes before the final whistle goes. Australia 5 Chinese Taipei 1

78' - Chen Wei-chuan now down with what looked like cramp, but it may be something more sinister there. It's very warm out there, but Chinese Taipei are really struggling with this. Australia 5 Chinese Taipei 1

77' - Australia play back to Matty yan, then they go left and it's Mabil to Smith who cuts back into the penalty area. Pinballs around, then Amini ends up taking a shot, but fires it well over the top. Australia 5 Chinese Taipei 1
