Perth Glory and Adelaide United are set to go head to head in an entertaining battle at NIB Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, with the ball first rolling at 7:30pm (AEDT).

Perth Glory has hit form in recent weeks after a slow start to the season, and they have now won their last four games. They have hit form ever since Tony Popovic rotated back to his favoured 3-4-1-2 formation and have been a great team to watch since then, they have won their last four games on an aggregate of 14-2!

They have been entertaining and have been surprisingly good even without Chris Ikonomidis, who is now the second choice to Joel Chianese in the role of the second striker. Diego Castro remains as influential as ever, registering four goals and four assists so far in the competition this season. They are favourites for this clash.

Adelaide United have lost four out of their last five games after crumbling to Sydney FC away from home last Saturday. They were boosted by the return of Riley McGree and he managed to get himself on the scoresheet again, but it wasn’t enough for Adelaide who now faces a tricky task in Perth away.

Bad news comes for Adelaide United in the form of James Troisi being out with a hamstring injury. As seen in my earlier article What’s wrong at Adelaide United earlier today, I’m not a big fan of James Troisi occupying the deep playmaker position, but his sense of calm and ability to create something out of nothing are qualities that Adelaide will lack heading into this game.

This could mean Ryan Kitto returning at left-back and Michael Maria being pushing into defensive midfield as seen earlier in the season, but a more conventional option is a direct replacement which would see Nathan Konstantopoulos start.

Prediction
Perth Glory is almost unstoppable when in good form, and Adelaide United will struggle to keep up with their level of class.

Perth 3-1 Adelaide

Match Report: Perth Glory has cruised to a 3-0 win against Adelaide United which has them only two points behind second-placed Melbourne City. Adelaide United dominated the first twenty minutes, capitalising on the fact that Perth Glory was coming off the back of a bye. They pressed aggressively and peppered Perth Glory’s goal, but Perth’s deep-lying defence did a stunning job in blocking pretty much everything that came their way early on. George Blackwood had the pick of the chances after he was found by some good work from Michael Maria on the left-hand side but his shot was wide of the near post. Perth Glory opened the scoring in beautiful style in the 25th minute, via Joel Chianese. Adelaide gave the ball away poorly in the defensive line straight to the feet of Castro, who played a low ball into the feet of Joel Chianese. Chianese took a spectacular first touch steering him clear of two defenders before drilling home a measured right-footed shot into the right-hand corner. Adelaide looked shocked but continued playing well in an attacking sense, keeping the ball nicely and creating some good opportunities. However, it was Perth’s clinical ability in front of goal that got the better of Adelaide as Bruno Fornaroli doubled the hosts lead in the 44th minute with a great strike. Diego Castro made Michael Jakobsen stumble with some beautiful skill moves before playing it to Bruno Fornaroli who was on the right. Fornaroli unleashed a brilliant shot that did take a deflection on the way in but most likely would have gone in anyway. Adelaide pushed for an equaliser in the second half but the ball just didn’t sit properly for the Reds. It was the substitute Chris Ikonomidis who brought to life what was a reasonably quiet second half with a brilliant burst of speed followed by clever quick thinking. Ikonomidis was released in behind Perth’s defence and Izzo came out to collect but squandered the ball. Ikonomidis made great use of the opportunity, dribbling around Izzo before calmly finishing into an empty net. Next up, Perth will face Western Sydney Wanderers at Bankwest stadium whereas Adelaide United will host Melbourne Victory in the original rivalry. Final Score: Perth Glory 3, Adelaide United 0
