The Round 10 action continues with an intriguing clash between Sydney FC, who find themselves back on an upward trajectory, and the visiting Brisbane Roar, live from Jubilee Stadium. Join The Roar from 7:50pm (AEDT) for a live blog and score updates of the game.

Well, a regulation Round 10 clash was given an extra layer of interest during the week, with the genuinely surprising resignation of coach John Aloisi from the Brisbane Roar.

Steve Corica would have spent a fair amount of his time since Aloisi’s announcement drumming into his players not to lose focus on the task at hand: winning this fixture, and locking in the three points that will take them equal with Melbourne (and momentarily at least with Perth).

What Corica would have been particularly pleased about last week against the then ladder leaders was two things: Sydney’s clean sheet, and Le Fondre’s return to form.

If Sydney can maintain that discipline at the back that has made them premiers and champions the last two seasons, while picking up goals through the clinical finishes this squad is capable of, then a fourth straight win tonight should see them capitalise on Melbourne’s dropped points, and join the Victory on 20 competition points.

As for Brisbane, well what do you say?

If there is one thing, and one thing only, that I have noticed about the Roar under John Aloisi is that they have been a frustrated side for the last three seasons, and none more so than this current campaign.

Sideline blow ups, players red-carded, a certain lack of cohesion – perhaps Aloisi’s departure will allow the squad an opportunity to breathe, to take a moment, and get back to playing football.

In the mean time, Brisbane will look to Adam Taggart to again take up the lion’s share of the attack, with the striker scoring 6 of the Roar’s 10 goals this season.

Prediction
Forget the Aloisi departure, bottom line is that Brisbane have lost four in a row, Sydney have won three in a row.

Regardless of who is sitting on the coaches’ bench for the visitors, the form guide favours the Sky Blues, and while history is at least on both teams’ sides (the last nine have produced three wins apiece and three draws), tonight should be all about Sydney FC making it three wins in a row, and continuing Brisbane’s 2018/19 season demise.

Sydney FC 3-nil.

Interesting concerning Redmayne. At Heart he was not particularly the goalkeeper that fans were hoping for. Sloppy at times we were not sad when he left. But it makes me thinks that he’s much better when he has a decent defence in front of him. It’s just that it gives him confidence and he performs at a higher level. Much like strikers who are in form. They magically believe in their ability and confidence goes up and goals become easier to score. Pretty much it’s about what’s happening between the ears rather than a lack of skill.

Stevo - How true, and a problem that has been haunting Roar for the last few seasons. Add to that the performances at the other end of the field where their goalkeeper continually performs miracles in order that the team stays "in the game" ,and you are left with the root cause for JA's sudden departure. Cheers jb.

Absolutely ridiculous comment that demonstrates this person has never played outdoor football at a competition level. Sort of rubbish we expect from people whose only engagement with sport has been on TV or computer. Put some boots on & have somebody clip you on the heels when you're about to control a ball with your feet. You'll fall over like a sack of potatoes.

Hi karlo. You have commentated on both var involvements going with the Sydney view. This could be pure chance. The penalty. A contact on the ankle/ from behind is a foul in most football matches. It is also known as a trip. This is different from the Sydney penalty against Melb victory where there may have been contact but not a foul. No contact on taggart then no penalty but there was to my view. McKay goal. It hits his chest. Even the fox sports commentators thought so. Even if chest then arm it should be a goal based on the hand not going towards the ball. This is not an issue as it hits the chest. Did you see it differently?

Hi Andrew. I'm a commentator who calls it as I see it mate. If you ever read my work, you'll know that my position consistently is that contact does not equate to a foul. I'm neither biased nor out of place. Thanks for your comment, but you can leave your personal attacks elsewhere. If you've got something constructive to say, by all means. But do not ever attack my integrity again.

Agreed Stevo. The ability to finish, once again in football, proving the key difference.

Full Time Sydney have taken the three points, but not as easily as the ladder would suggest, in a hard fought 2-1 win, that saw VAR intervention, and an Andrew Redmayne penalty save. A double to Adam Le Fondre was enough for the home side, after Matt McKay equalised for the men in orange, the teams 1-all at half time. The second half was an even affair, but ultimately it was Sydney's class that shone through, as Ninkovic lifted and Le Fondre finished up front. VAR played its part tonight intervening after Adam Taggart earned a penalty for Brisbane, but the ref reviewed the footage, and maintained his decision, ultimately correctly. Taggart could not complete the move, Redmayne guessing correctly from Taggart's less than aggressive strike, and although Brisbane finished with fire, Sydney finished with calm and composure. A great game out at Jubilee Stadium, sees three teams atop of the table tonight on 20 points. As for Brisbane, all does not yet appear entirely lost for their season, who showed enough tonight to suggest they can still play more than a bit-part in season 2018/19. Sydney FC - 2 Brisbane Roar - 1

So having a striker on your team worthy of the title striker was the difference in this game. Entertaining but Roar unable to convert at crucial moments.

94' - Bautheac has played a blinder tonight, and while he loses out in the corner, he made the Sydney defence earn it. Now, Sydney with a sub here, Devlin coming on for Ninkovic. Curious though, a defender coming on as Sydney are deep in defence at the moment. Sydney FC - 2 Brisbane Roar - 1

90' - Brosque will come off, he's a tired bearded man. he takes all the time he can to give the armband to Wilkinson, and the ref directs him off the field accordingly. Tratt comes on in the captain's place. Sydney FC - 2 Brisbane Roar - 1

Not clear evidence that there was contact. Video was blurry during action sequence. I guess VAR went with original decision as not enough evidence to overturn.

90' - Brosque to Le Fondre, to Brosque, to Le Fondre, blocked by Brisbane, who try to counter at pace. Bautheac has run hard, and covered every blade of grass tonight. Sydney FC - 2 Brisbane Roar - 1

89' - Sydney turning on the charm, but don't have the substance to match. Nothing can match clinical finishing, despite how flashy it can look at times. Sydney FC - 2 Brisbane Roar - 1
