Match preview:

Sydney FC will aim to create breathing space in the top two, while Melbourne City look to do the same at the bottom of the top six as the two sides clash at Leichhardt. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 7pm (AEDT).

Sydney are likely to be fatigued coming into this game, having travelled to Japan during the week where they lost their second Asian Champions League match 1-0 to Kawasaki Frontale.

That competition gives their recent form guide, and if a draw against Ulsan Hyundai at home in their previous match is anything to go by, then they simply need to improve execution in the final third.

Ulsan have a defence far superior to anything they will come up against in the A-League, and for the most part, Adam Le Fondre has been in spectacular form these last few weeks.

If Sydney win, they will go four points clear of the third-placed Melbourne Victory on the table, and move closer to securing a week off in the first week of finals action.

On the other side of the dice, Melbourne City’s form has been poor, with just three draws claimed from their last six games.

Their attack has been pretty poor, with the club struggling to win the ball in midfield and create any meaningful opportunities in the final third.

Add to that, their defence, under constant pressure, just hasn’t been up to standard, and it’s not hard to see why they have been losing games that, on paper at least, they should have been winning, and winning well.

Facing a ruthless Sydney away from home will be a tough task, and City’s defence are sure to get another workout here from the weapons running around in sky blue.

Predicition
Sydney are at home, and given the weapons all over the pitch, as well as the weather and likely slipperiness of the pitch underfoot, there could be some goals in this one. I’ll take Sydney in an entertaining thriller.

Sydney 4 – Melbourne 1.

MV and Sydney aren't good enough to top the table now and Perth aren't bad enough to give up top spot, they're undefeated away and still have 3 home games. Too much motivation and the finish line within touching distance now for Perth.

On a table that is ranked by "Points" based on a mathematical formula of: Points = (#Wins x 3) + #Draws Someone asks: "Who would have thought that maths has anything to do with sport" Wonderful example of Australia's education outcomes. Keep up the good work. Maybe, Jordan has an excuse. At age 14 he's only just grasped the complexity of the "times 3 tables", so "scenario planning" is well beyond his remit.

Just have to win 2 of those games to win the title realistically.

Glory are clearly withing touching distance of the Premiership, but it ain't over until the mathematics says it's over. Glory's remaining matches MVFC (home) CCM (away) Jets (home) Sydney (away) NIX (home) If MV & Syd are good enough, then it gets very very interesting. Certainly Jets & NIX will be pushing for a win in those matches. If MV & Syd are not good enough then Perth deserve to cruise to the title.

Surely the Glory can't lose the title from here. 9 points clear with 5 games left. And City can't miss finals surely.
