Conceding early made an already difficult task that much harder for the Sky Blues, as they fell 2-1 in Melbourne to the Victory last week.
A positive from the match was a return to form for Milos Ninkovic, who has struggled to repeat his performances of the last few seasons without the likes of Adrian Mierzejewski and Bobo to link up with.
Melbourne City continued their season without a striker against Wellington, and even though their midfielders and makeshift forwards have been doing the job amply, nothing was getting past ‘Nix keeper Filip Kurto, as they went down 1-0 in Wellington.
Naturally, both teams are going to need to improve if they hope to get a result out of this one. Especially in front of goal.
Both teams with big ins for this match as City see Dario Vidosic and Curtis Good return to the squad.
While Sydney get Jop van der Linden, Alex Brosque and Jacob Tratt back from injury, Rhyan Grant back from the Asian Cup, and new loan signing Reza Ghoochannejhad has joined up with the squad.
Sydney do lose Michael Zullo after he picked up his 5th yellow for the season last week, and they have omitted Joel King and Charles Lokoli-N’goy to make room for the returnees.
Prediction
City will look to score through their striking revelation Ritchie De Laet, but Sydney should prove too strong at home.

Match Review: This was a game full of skill errors from both sides, exacerbated by a pesky wind keen to toy with anything in the air. It was a bright start for Sydney youth product Luke Ivanovic, who in his first start for the senior team, scored his first A-League goal in the 9th minute. It would come crashing down for the youngster soon after, first copping a high Delbridge boot to the brow, and then needing to be subbed off after injuring his left glute. The last 15 minutes of the first half dragged on as Sydney played for half time, and City struggled to break them down. The start of the second half was where the best of City’s chances came. But between their own inability to hit the target from close and some terrific goalkeeping from Andrew Redmayne, they remained goalless. Sydney had some of their own chances, but they too were struggling to hit the target. Summed up by Mitch Austin’s effort of hitting the post while shooting at an open net. A controversial penalty call came at the 79th minute where referee Jarred Gillet judged Milos Ninkovic to have brought down Bart Schenkeveld in the area. Riley McGree stepped up to take the penalty, but Redmayne had his measure and was able to save it. Late on Adam Le Fondre scored his 12th goal for the season to make it 2 – 0 to Sydney and essentially finish the game. The win for Sydney keeps them a point behind second placed Melbourne Victory. While City fall to 5th following Adelaide’s win over Brisbane.

Woeful from City. Again, how is Joyce hanging on to the coaching job. He has picked the players, decided the game strategies, sent players packing from the club, and all for what!!!!! Compare that with first season for Popovic at Glory.
