The Western Sydney Wanderers will be looking to remain in the hunt for finals as they host the seventh-placed Western United. Stay up to date with this must-win game from Bankwest Stadium with live scores on The Roar from 7:10pm (AEST).

The Wanderers’ six-match winless run finally ended with their 3-2 Sydney Derby victory last week. Only time will tell whether a win over their crosstown rivals will be the spark that ignites a strong run home from Carl Robinson’s troops.

United’s loss to Roar on Wednesday was just their second since mid-March, but they have been unable to consistently put together enough wins to challenge for a top-four spot. Adding insult to injury, the Sydney COVID-19 situation meant the team spent the week in Brisbane, and will fly south on match day. Will the hectic few days take a toll on Mark Rudan’s men?

A win here would see either side leapfrog the Brisbane Roar into sixth spot on the A-League ladder. Given the Roar already have two games in hand over the Wanderers and one on United, defeat would see that gap become a yawning chasm as the build-up to finals begins in earnest.

I was at the game. Impressive performance from WSW. I do agree that the top is a logjam. This season is Melbourne city’s to lose. If they lose Andrew N and Jmac to WC duties then all bets are off. I still think it is wide open and that Adelaide will win if MC fade. There are plenty of teams that will worry now especially if Carl now has it all correct. But I think that is where they will lose Duke and Bruce to the WC. Fascinating season! And the smurfs? Well they could be a real threat if they can oil the wheels on their wheelchairs!

The Roar has 3 games in hand on a few teams above them. They should rightly be eyeing off 2nd position - should grab it and keep it.

The A-League top 6 is jogjam. Talk about a crowded place to be. Jeez, WSW are going to fight tooth & nail, I think. They’re going to give a few teams quite the scare. As for WU? I think after being recently torched, they haven’t recovered or healed. I feel another Rudan rant coming along.
