Match preview:

Alex De Minaur will face a tough assignment in the semi-finals of the Sydney International as he faces veteran Frenchman Gilles Simon. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 8:30pm (AEDT).

De Minaur has been on fire to start another season, and with the draw opening up to him more favourably at the first grand slam of the year on the back of a seeding, he can look to use these matches as a good final preparation for Melbourne.

In the five matches he has won this year (two in Brisbane and three in Sydney), he hasn’t lost a set in any of them, with the only player able to get the better of him so far being Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

De Minaur’s straight-sets victory was impressive over Jordan Thompson yesterday as he held onto his serve in crucial times, won big points and showed his normal quick movement around the back of the court to get the job done.

Simon, meanwhile, will come into this match under a cloud of fatigue.

While the world No.31 has started the season well enough with a semi-final appearance in Pune, his level of consistency in Sydney has been questionable.

A late-night match yesterday, finishing at 1:30am (AEDT), won’t leave him in good stead for this one either, having been pushed to the brink by another Aussie in John Millman, requiring a third-set tiebreaker and some trademark heavy serving to get the job done.

Prediction
Simon is undoubtedly a talented player, but De Minaur looks to be in good form and, with recovery time and effort to get through to this stage of the tournament taken into account, the Aussie will make this match far too physical for his opponent to hang onto in the clutch.

De Minaur in three sets.

Be sure to join The Roar for live coverage of the match from around 8:30pm (AEDT) or at the completion of the women’s semi-final before it on the Ken Rosewall Arena and don’t forget to add a comment in the section below.

Hope you enjoyed the call, Roarers. Stuart Thomas will be back from 5pm to cover the women's and men's final. Hopefully Ash Barty and Alex De Minaur can both go one step further than last year, although Kvitova and Seppi are both tough opponents.

Alex De Minaur will take on Andreas Seppi in the Sydney International final later today. De Minaur was too good for a heat impacted Gilles Simon. He did keep the points reasonably short and the straight sets win has given him a good chance of backing up well.
