Serbia and Spain will do battle in the first-ever final of the ATP Cup. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 6:30pm (AEDT).

After over a week of top-quality tennis, just two countries remain in the running for the inaugural ATP Cup. Serbia found their way past Russia with Novak Djokovic and Dusan Lajovic winning their respective singles matches.

Spain did the same against a gutsy Australia; Rafael Nadal locking up the tie with a victory in a stunning match against Alex de Minaur.

It sets up a grandstand finish to the event. Roberto Bautista Agut will tackle the giant-killing Lajovic in the opening rubber before two legends meet in the second.

Both Djokovic and Nadal have played well during the event but also been exposed at different times by committed opponents. The nation who takes a 1-0 lead into the second singles match will no doubt hold a distinct advantage.

With a chance to close out the rubber in two matches, either Nadal or Djokovic would play with a passion and emotion only seen in international team competition, while the other would be desperate to extend the event.

Should that happen and the ATP Cup be decided by a doubles fixture, choosing a winner will be near impossible. Which players the team captains choose to participate in it will also be something of a mystery.

Prediction
Thankfully, a doubles decider will not eventuate. Lajovic has been stunningly effective throughout the event and should be able to handle the consistent yet predictable game of Bautista Agut.

After that, Djokovic will beat Nadal in straight sets. The Serbian has looked impressive and appeared to be improving throughout the week.

Serbia has won the inaugural ATP Cup, defeating Spain in the doubles encounter after the singles matches had been split earlier in the evening. The night began well for Spain when Roberto Bautista Agut dealt with Dusan Lajovic quite comfortably in the opening singles match. Soon after, world number one Rafael Nadal took to the court, needing to knock off world number two Novak Djokovic to seal the cup for Spain. He could not do it and the tie went down to the doubles fixture and into the wee hours of the morning. In the end, it was the Serbians who prevailed in straight sets. Novak Djokovic was astonishing throughout the match and fittingly served out the final game of the match. The fans lifted the roof and the emotion on the faces of the victors said a lot about the success of the newest event on the schedule. For Spain it was not to be but today they were just not on the same level as Djokovic. Whilst Victor Troicki may have played his part in the win, it was the amazing presence of Djokovic that made all the difference in the 6-3 6-4 victory. Final Score Serbia 2 Spain 1
