Karolina Pliskova takes on Aussie Ajla Tomljanovic tonight on Pat Rafter Arena in the Brisbane International quarter-finals. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 8:00pm (AEDT).

Karolina Pliskova, the current no 8 ranked player in the world, won this tournament in 2017 and will be looking to get one step closer to repeating the dose.

She has lost one set on the way to this quarter-final clash, taken to three sets by Yulia Putintesova before winning in straight sets over Sam Stosur’s conqueror, Marie Bouzkova.

Pliskova has a big game, using her 186cm height to generate pace on her serve and groundstrokes. If she is allowed to control the rallies, she will win.

Alja Tomljanovic has been one of the big improvers of 2018, increasing her ranking from 118 to 46. She will be keen to show home fans that she is very much in the group of young Australian women who are now getting deep into WTA tournaments week to week.

After losing the first set of the first round 6-1 to Katerina Siniakova, Tomljanovic has not dropped a set, claiming the big scalp of Johanna Konta in the second round. Tomljanovic did get a case of the jitters late in the second set against Konta but showed great poise in the tie-break to win the match.

She is also aware that she will need to match the groundstrokes of Pliskova to challenge in this match and she does have the artillery to do so.

Prediction
This pair have played twice for one win apiece, but haven’t faced off against each other since 2015.

Pliskova has a good record at the Brisbane International, winning in 2017 and making the semi-finals last year.

Tomljanovic will have the crowd on her side but that won’t be enough.

Pliskova to win in three sets.
