Nick Kyrgios defeated Daniil Medvedev in straight sets 7-6, 7-6 in the Washington Open final. Kyrgios has always had a soft spot for America and he was in outstanding form all week. He had fun with the crowd throughout the tournament and seemed as happy as he’s been for a long time.
Medvedev paid tribute to Kyrgios in his runner-up speech and gave an honest assessment of Kyrgios. “When you’re a winner you’re always happy,” he said.
“We all know how Nick can play when he wants to win. This week I think he wanted to play.” The subtle dig drew laughter from the crowd and Kyrgios himself.

Kyrgios doesn't commit to the bland status quo of the tennis world, which is so refreshing, I hope he never changes. He could be number one if he wanted to be, he's beaten all the top seeds, but he chooses to run his own race.

Agree. Good winner but behaves like a brat when things go against him. Part of the entitled generation? Like that netball player last week who only wants to hear "positives". Hence Nick will never win a major. Jerk.
