By The Roar / Editor

During the press conference after straight-sets win against Joao Sousa, world No. 2 Rafael Nadal was asked why he was given Centre Court over women’s world No. 1, Ash Barty. His honest in his response has divided opinion.

Australian journalists leave it alone. You are the only people making a big deal of it, like always u make a mountain out of a mole hill. You are an embarrassment. Nadal and Federer should always get preference over any player, look what they have done for the game of tennis. Pull your head in.

Side note - wonder if any journos have the cahounas to ask Serena Williams (Rank 10, Seed 11) if she should give up her centre court and court 1 matches that she's had so far??

Australian media have gone feral over Barty, its embarassing to this country. Particularly as center courts in the Australian Open favour local players here. Barty is great example to all of how to behave and not bitch, yet our Australian media now keep drawing her name into all of this.

Agree,Damo.Nadal was being very reasonable in his response and it really infuriates me how the media try to blow up controversies by dramatising players' comments.I saw one headline "Nadal sparks Wimbledon storm with disrespectful Barty comments"!What a load of garbage. Just because we have a world no.1 player for the first time in many years, there is no need to get too precious about her.You will also note that Ash never complains about any of this so called "disrespect".

He was being very reasonable. Firstly, he doesn't get a say but he also noted that men's World #1 and Seed #1 Novak was also on an outside court. It's not a sexism thing, it's a tournament directors being stupid thing. (I'm sure $$$$ drives all the decisions)
