Let us know your thoughts.

Do you rate the squad?

How will the Socceroos go?

Who is unlucky to miss out, and why?

Who can consider themselves most fortunate to be on the plane?

Who of the provisional squad selected today would you leave out of your final 23 man World Cup squad to be announced on June 1?

Leave a comment, pose a question.

Then, join me at 8pm tonight for a live debate as we run the rule over Pim’s selection.

If Kewell doesn't recover in time, would you take; Carle - has played the system, great close control, ability to thread a pass from the left Rukavytsa - speed, can play up front to break an off-side trap, scoring goals Oar - willing to run at defenders, no fear Cahill was a pocket rocket/super-sub before 2006. He's now a mainstay. Could 2010 birth a new star from the above 3?

Tony, my apologies that I could not join in last night---I had an unexpected visitor. However, I appreciate your reply and have the same thoughts on Pim's selections as you and I'm extremely happy of Nicky Carle's selection.. Cheers Tony..

At the 2010 WC, Italia and England will be the only teams with their entire squads playing only in their domestic leagues.

It's ironic really. Carragher arguably used to be England's most consistant centre-back, but could never get a game. He's now had a poor season and he gets selected. Capello also tried to tempt Scholes out of retirement after his excellent recent form, but the player said no. He also spoke to the likes of Bobby Zamora and Hargreaves, but Hargreaves has played about a minute of football in 18 months and Zamora is carrying an injury. Agree about Johnson and Milner. I wasn't sure whether Johnson could step up immediately when he signed, but he's looked right at home at Manchester City and I would argue that he's eclipsed Tevez and Bellamy in the latter part of the season. Johnson has probably leapfrogged Young and Downing, who are really the only suprising omissions. Even then, you have the immensely talented, but injury prone Joe Cole in there. Milner's has simply been a revelation this year - excellent touch, technique, acceleration and delivery.

Saw this last night Colin. Most surprised about Carragher, shocking season, such a liability at Lpool. Most excited about Adam Johnson and James Milner, great seasons.

Goalkeepers: Joe Hart (Manchester City), David James (Portsmouth), Robert Green (West Ham). Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Jamie Carragher (Liverpool), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Michael Dawson (Tottenham), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Ledley King (Tottenham), John Terry (Chelsea), Matthew Upson (West Ham), Stephen Warnock (Aston Villa). Midfielders: Gareth Barry (Manchester City), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Tom Huddlestone (Tottenham), Adam Johnson (Manchester City), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Aaron Lennon (Tottenham), James Milner (Aston Villa), Scott Parker (West Ham), Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Shaun Wright-Phillips (Manchester City). Forwards: Darren Bent (Sunderland), Peter Crouch (Tottenham), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham), Emile Heskey (Aston Villa), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United). You may sit and ponder. Some interesting selections such as Johnosn and Huddlestone (both whom I am fans of). Walcott and Wright-Phillips get in there despite not playing regularly. The right side may be a huge problem for England. Five months ago, it looked like we had a wealth of options, but Walcott hasn't played a lot or played that well since his injury, Wright-Phillips hasn't played much since Mancini took charge and Lennon has only just returned from injury. As expected, pretty well covered at centre-back and centre-midfield with some top class players (I wouldn't have picked Upson though - he hasn't played well this season). Left-back looks suitably sorted, with good back-up. Although I rate the three keepers selected, none have really stood out at international level and whoever goes in net, seems to be cursed. Some decent options up front also, led by Wayne Rooney. Only one out-and-out right-back in Johnson although Carragher can cover there after coming out of international retirement.

as agga78 said....moore seems to be playing the game about 1-2 seconds behind everyone else. I watched him several times on tv when he was playing for Kavala.....not surprising he got a red card in his 2nd(or 3rd) game over here....2 professional fouls.....but he was to blame for at least one goal every game...his opponent usually gave him the slip. Now it was a combo of factors....he seemed to be going thru the motions, he was slow to react to danger, lost his ability to read the game...he stood out in the centre of the defence for all the wrong reasons. A guy that announces his retirement then decides to come back...i'm not to sure........he prob saw there was not much competition in the centre of defence and thought he could still do it. But from what i saw of him lately, i think he'll be moore of a liability than an asset.

The first 13 odd we already knew, it's just the reserves that could be contentious. Love it if someone like a Nicky Carle did a Roger Milla and just went bezserk over in South Africa. We need to pull a rabbit from our hat as the great Denny Crane would say to win it. We are there, so who knows.

Rellum, based on that squad, you'd exclude; Galekovic (no choice, Pim has excluded him already) North Beauchamp Lowry Oar Holland Jedinak Vidosic I think you'll be pretty close. My 8 would be; Galekovic (no choice. If I did, it would be Jones) Beauchamp Carney Lowry Oar Holland Valeri Garcia

And I will say as an Everton fan that Cahill has lost sharpness in recent times, and ultimately as we Arteta, Bilyaletdinov and Pienaar show their skills, he is still useful for scoring goals but it's those three that can make the ball talk.

...though he may play them more in the pre-games to save the first XI’s legs... I touch on this in my comment about the lack of game time. It's a juggling act for Pim. By playing his first 11 in the lead ups, he risks injuries, but I guess it's better to find out that players just arent up for it physically prior to the WC rather than in the WC. I remember Pim's work in the Asia Cup for South Korea and my memories are that he did tinker throughout, freshening things up game to game. I remember the Koreans gradually improving throughout the tourni.. But he had a pretty young squad then.

That's the hope Adam, that the league gets the credit it deserves. The thing about the standard of the league this season is that there was a marked improvement, but Pim barely acknowledged this. As for the personal vendettas, it's all a bit of inuendo, but Kilkenny is one such players linked to this. This tends to go on all over the place, and not just in football, but let's hope it doesn't happen under the next regime.

The amount of games with the age of the squad may prove you right, though I remember WC06 when Skoko couldn't even get a run. As much as we might like him to freshen things up, I'm not sure that he will. He sticks to what he thinks will grind out the results, and at the World Cup I think that means (to him) experience, and 4-2-31! The age factor may mean injuries will give the 2nd XI a chance, though he may play them more in the pre-games to save the first XI's legs.

Lmacca, I'd be a bit disappointed if only 14 players got as look in in SA, esp with only FOUR days between games two and three. I think this is where the ageing squad might catch up on us, and Verbeek may need to freshen things up. I'm very worried about our so called first 11 getting through 6 games (three pre games plus three group games) without the need for our back up 11... Would like to see Pim shuffle things a bit, keep men fresh, give players a chance, and keep the opposition guessing. I agree about Sterj and Burns, just don't think they did enough to warrant selection. As for Burns, Djite and Troisi, I do hope they're on the radar of the next manager and that he can get the best out of our next generation

Fox had an excellent caption up on the lack of game-time in 2010 for members of our squad; Kewell - 2mins Bresciano - 3 games Carney - 0 starts Carle - 12 starts North - 4 games Holland - 0 games at AZ Kennedy - 5 games (at least they've been recent, and he's scoring) Culina - training since Feb Moore - training with a state league club Oar - training with Utrecht Paul Okon made a point on The World Game a few weeks back that Verbeek might have a few of the players breaking down on him if he flogs them, as Hiddink did four years ago. He then might have the ease off the fitness training, which will impact the preparation. Bosnich spoke of this point tonight, arguing Verbeek has to be very careful, testing the players fitness before deciding whether to flog them. Will be very interesting watching this, and whether his preparation caters for the injuries. I sense he will, and that is likely to be our undoing.
