Mundine, Green losing respect of the public

By kangaroo army / Roar Rookie

The recent fights of Danny Green and Anthony Mundine have been a joke. It seems they are looking for easy paydays and easy fights.

Don’t get me wrong, they are both champions. However, they are past fighting Australian opponents. They need to fight better higher ranked fighters overseas.

Since Green has returned from retirement, he hasn’t fought anyone ranked, while Mundine’s last top ranked fight was against Mikkel Kessler in 2005, which he lost.

I can’t see any top ranked fighters coming to Australia. Are Green and Mundine past it?

If you want the respect of sporting public, and want to stop the criticism, then you have to fight the best. And I don’t see that happening.

Anthony Mundine is ranked sixth in the world and should be challenging fighters higher than him, such as Paul Williams and Miguel Angel Cotto; whilst Danny Green needs to step up a division in order to get some challenges.

We’ll just have to wait and see what happens next.

guys like mundine and green are slowly killing boxing and fight fans are turning to MMA to see genuine contests. You can have a mouth like mundine and green in MMA but you have to defend it against fighters that are picked by the organisation not bums picked by your manager.

Yeah, he beat Roy Jones Jr fair and square. But I agree with the general point but *shrug* thats boxing.

We need to bring back the boxing tents. Not make people wait hours on pay per view to see the one fight they want to see.

Considering the spray Green gave the Sonny Billl fight, it's pretty rich of Green.

I will never watch a Green nor Mundine fight again either, are there are more retired bums out there for them to share between? I will support local boxing as they ( the young up and coming fighters) dont deserve to be tarred with the same filthy brush as these two jokers with their cornflake box title belts....

I would have thought the respect was already lost.

What a disgrace and then to attempt to explain it all away this morning, essentially claiming this was a Briggs charity event. In seems that Briggs wasn't the mug after all, rather in an event that has become common place in Australian boxing, the paying punter is. That's it for me. Never again will I watch an Australian promoted fight.

Hard to disagree there, Green's fight against Briggs brought this ridiculousness to a whole new level - it was already bad on paper (c'mon they had to move the fight because Sydney wouldn't approve it!) and then the reality was even worse than expected. Hopefully there's enough of a backlash to get these guys back on track, or at least to drop the paydays for these 'contests'
