Why is a quick tap not allowed any more?

By ptovey01 / Roar Pro

I have been miffed by many of the rules implemented by the NRL, from the stripping rule to walking off the mark shambles. But the one which annoys me the most is the way the referees do not allow a team to take a quick tap.

A prime example was in the Roosters-Gold Coast game.

A penalty was given at the ruck and the Gold Coast wanted to take a quick tap. But the referee came running over and said, “No no no, I haven;t given you the mark.”

What a crock!

The penalty was right where the player got tackled. This has happened on so many occasions this year and it needs to change. It allows the defense to get set and takes away any advantage.

Quick taps are allowed it's just the referees making the game about them. In the ESL quick 20 metre taps are allowed, in the NRL the ref has to be in position, which he is almost immediately, but he stops and looks at the pocket ref, then the two touch judges, then blows the whistle. But the most annoying thing is when a player wants to take the tap on the mark and can't because the referee is in the way and says 'wait, wait, wait' it's not the players job to wait, it's YOUR job to get out of the way, the game doesn't need to wait for you.

Alfie seems to get the grill for every thing. The stripping rule, Tackling with the legs, quick taps. If it was the case that it was brought in to stop him, he has caused 2 or the worst rule changes ever (stripping and quick taps), and all because he was too good for everyone else. Geez I never liked him. But much like the King (who I also despised), he was an awesome footy player.

There are a heap of rules in league that annoy me. Recently (I can't remember which game, but only in the last two weeks) I saw a tight head, and the ref made the scrum repack. Rubbish. The quick tap not being allowed. Rubbish The tackled player walking everywhich way to play the ball, and the marker is the one penalised. Rubbish. Do a good low tackle and you just have to release quicker because the ball carrier is on his stomach and the tackle is not deemed dominant. Rubbish. It seems like a dropped ball, no matter if it even went back, is pulled up as a knock on. Rubbish. A kicker not being allowed to be challenged, so now we have blokes rush up, get within tackling distance of the kicker and have to stand there while he kicks... yup you guessed it, Rubbish.
