Love my League love my Union, Actually I love all sports just in varying degrees. My name is Phillip Tovey. My blog is www.looseheadprop.com.au and as you can take from my blog name I am a bit of a rugby tragic. Love both league and Union and am a Life Member of the Moorebank Rugby League Football Club, but have aligned myself in recent years with the game they play in heaven, starting the Alexandria Dukes Rugby Football Club which I am the President. I’m married to a gorgeous, smart, amazing, woman who supports me in all my endeavors. We have a son who is our world. I am lucky to have them both. wpid-2013-08-03-20.55.26.png My blog like my posts on the roar will not be serious all the time and will be a place for me to vent, share opinion and jokes. Hopefully if your reading this you can understand sarcasm and not take things too serious. Roar on.

My son was born in December and he would probably meet the relevant criteria of small for his age. But looking at the kids in the Grade below he is still big compared to them.
If they are going to apply the rule they need more metrics around what that means and how and when it can occur. Else it will be abused by some.

Don't let the NRL ruin junior rugby league

Agree. Being tackled is as important as tackling. Body position coming into a tackle etc.
I think I’ll introduce what you have suggested in the parents shaking hands with my team. I like that idea.

There are already Oz tag and touch footy which can give you or a child that entry point. Tackling is 50% of the game. Kids should be taught as early as possible to tackle correctly.

Your situation sounds terrible with the club And for your child. I know from a club perspective grading is a hard thing,

My son would fit I to the play down a year group if implemented and whilst he is small, when you look at him at 7s to the kids who are in the 6s there is still a difference and they are just moving the issue.

The main thing here is that they are trying to get people to come to rugby league and then stay. I don’t believe that these will assist in changing coaches, nor will it help kids learn the fundamentals more efficiently. As noted above I believe the age issue will just move the problem from kids born in October, November, December to kids born in May June July.

I think that the 2015 Bledisloe 3 will go 1 of two ways:
1. Tight match with result going either way; or 2. All Blacks by a heap.

Whenever we play a Bledisloe at a neutral venue we seem to have a dig. Most times however the game is just a sideshow cause the first 2 games have already seen the Blackness win. But this time its 1 all and everything to play for.

I’m hoping that the Wallabies play for 80 mins next week as they were dead ducks for 45-50 mins in the middle of the match. If they do that then the Bledisloe will definitely be going back to NZ.

Five talking points from the Wallabies' win over Argentina

At the 2010 NRL GF I was so sick from nerves that I couldn’t drink a beer. Couldn’t eat a hotdog. Could hardly talk to my wife and mother and father sitting next to me.

I think it will be the same for this Sunday morning. Either that or start drinking at about 11pm with the lads and be on the money by 3am.

When is the 2023 venue being awarded. Australia or South Africa must be about due.

Five very good reasons the Wallabies will win the Rugby World Cup

I saw the following tweet by Jamie Pandaram. The old wives tale, it comes in 3s….

Sam Burgess - stay or go, just get on with it

I think everyone here is a bit delusional about the prospect of a National competition. Until you get the participation to come into the public school system, we are going to struggle against true rugby nations like SA and NZ. Someone here will be able to tell me participation rates in all schools, but I bet it is not very high for rugby.

Unless your going to sort out the bottom up, leave the top alone.

ARU heading towards third tier and FTA TV

I don’t think any of the current wallabies would make it. I do remember back a few years ago when the Adelaide 7’s had a few wallabies added to it and they did OK. These were Lote Tiquiri and Matt Rogers.

Does Olympic rugby need NRL players?

Sorry.

Does Olympic rugby need NRL players?

Forgot Ben Barba. How did that happen. Dave Taylor too.

Does Olympic rugby need NRL players?

Not sure why I put Glenn Stewart in there. Must have been a throw back to the BBQ, where we had too many manly fans.

Will Chambers for his speed.

Does Olympic rugby need NRL players?

Happens far too much over here. I started a Rugby club up this year and play in the Suburban Rugby Union competition.

We heard so much dribble pre-season about why a school was better than another, that we started a fine system any time someone rabbited on about their school days.

The Douche jar is up over $400 thus far, which will make for a few cans on presentation day.

We have to stop the madness some how.

Will rugby league pillage rugby again?

I haven’t read everyone’s Roar, but to me the best way to get people playing the game, is to get them early. The ARU needs to do what League did back in the late 70’s and 80’s and what AFL is doing now. Bombard schools. Not just private schools, but where the biggest pool of player are, Public schools.

I went to a public school, and grew up playing league. I didn’t really get any exposure to Rugby Union until I went to Uni. That’s 13 years after I should have had Rugby Union driven into me.

Even if I didn’t end up playing the the game, I would have had a chance to. I think now back to those school days and the teams and players that I have coached since my Rugby conversion, how good that it could have been.

Get it right get in to public schools ARU

How I would fix Australian rugby: improve the pathways

I think the concept is good, but really cringe when people try to compare it to origin. They are totally different ideals.

The game itself was played at a pretty good standard, but they can keep the power play and all of the above changes they tested.

It was great to see Sam Thaiday kept to his mantra of being 5th man into a fight.

NRL All Stars match will never match passion of Origin

Well I my opinion is that he is doing it for the cash, and why shouldn’t he. Like any good business person he has found a niche which he can exploit and he is doing it. Like Mundine we all wait in anticipation of the day that Sonny is knocked down, hence why we want to watch the fights.

Unfortunately, this annoys the living daylights out of every purist, but the old world is no longer. TV pays the wages and really for the sport of boxing it needs TV now more than ever as the mixed martial arts (UFC etc) is much more of a spectacle.

Is Sonny Bill Williams making a mockery out of boxing?

Thank the lord that it will be over!!

Love him as a player, but have seen about 49 of his last games. Who cares accept for possibly all of Queensland and the Broncos

Lockyer Farewell Tour: beyond hero worship and beyond ridiculous

Ahhh. The Kieran Perkins Theory and effect. I like it.

A conspiracy: any odds on Thorpey?

I live in the area, near the home base of the GWS training area. I would have expected to be bombarded with marketing, and signs and all the rest of the blah, blah blah that goes with a new team. I reckon their goosed already.

NRL has nothing to fear from GWS

What a load of Bollocks. It’s like in 2003 when the Aussies did the same thing.
