UFC live updates, blog: Velasquez vs Dos Santos

By The Crowd / Roar Guru

Cain Velasquez defends his UFC heavyweight world title against challenger Junior Dos Santos today in Anaheim, California. Join us for live updates, scoring and blog from 1pm (ADST).

Velasquez has not fought for more than a yaer since defeating Brock Lesnar for the belt and is undefeated in his professional career, while Dos Santos is fighting on a eight fight win streak, having defeated Shane Carwin and Roy Nelson most recently

The fight is being fought on free to air television rather than the usual pay per view promotions after the UFC negotiated a deal with the Fox network in the US.

A one-hour special will air on ONE at 1pm ADST.

The Roar has previewed the fight, with the analysis and predictions tipping a close fight with Velasquez tipped to win by our writers.

Update: Junior Dos Santos beats Velasquez in 1m 4 seconds

Wow I expect it to be longer but I did pick JDS to win I suspect Dana would not be happy at the moment of the quick finish, all the hype for a quick match not good.

Crazy crazy power from Dos Santos. I fully expect Alistair Overeem to trounce Brock Lesnar in December. If that is the case we are going to have a helluva fight on our hands. Join us in the Pacquaio v Marquez play-by-play for more combat sports action.

Massive overhand right to the ear. Dos Santos is such a humble guy. 1 minute four seconds. Velasquez says he's sorry, was rocked by the shot and he'll back back to fight again.

ROUND 1 - VELASQUEZ vs. DOS SANTOS Velasquez throws a heavy leg kick that Dos Santos counters with a right hand. Velasquez again works Dos Santos' lead leg successfully. Dos Santos tries to return the favour and his kick is nearly caught by the champ. Another hard leg kick by Velasquez. Out of nowhere Dos Santos lands a huge overhand right behind Velasquez's ear. Velasquez drops to his knees and retreats to his back. Dos Santos smells blood and follows him down and a series of right hand forces Velasquez to turtle and the bout is stopped. Dos Santos is the new UFC Heavyweight Champion!

Dos Santos entering to the Rocky Theme... There should really be a universal ban on title challengers coming out to that. Unless they are in fact Rocky.

It will be interesting to see how the US mainstream audience respond to the Guida/Henderson fight. It's an excellent fight, I wonder if they will see it that way.

Gotta side with Henderson. Seemed to do everything just a little bit better. Get to watch it again to make sure though haha.

What a great fight. Both fighters dangerous and threatening each other but Henderson had the edge for mine. Judges get it right? Now for the Main Event...

Round 3 - Guida vs. Henderson This fight is nuts and I can't keep up. The first part of the round is a blur of takedown attemps and wild strikes. The second half sees Guida almost finished Henderson with a guillotine choke on several occasions. Henderson pops out at the end and punishes Guida with strikes. 10-9 Guida

Round 2 - Henderson vs. Guida Well I'd too my best to describe that but I'm going to struggle. The two trade wild strikes and takedown attempts for the first two minutes. Guida then goes crazy and throws a spinning back fist that seems to clip and hurt Henderson temporarily before ending the maneuvre on his back somehow. Guida gets a takedown attempt and a failed guillotine attempt sees Henderson with his back. The round finishes with Henderson working for a rear naked choke. 10-9 Henderson

Round 1 - Henderson vs. Guida Two exchange quickly to start and Henderson drops Guida with a right hand. Guida goes into wild brawling mode and just the same as the Diego Sanchez fight it doesn't go too well for him. Henderson drops him again but Guida survives. They trade position on the cage for two minutes before Guida gets a good shot in one of the exchanges. 10-9 HEnderson.
