I remember last year when the media was jumping on the fight to claim the AFL broadcasting rights for the next few years. When it was announced that the Seven Network had won, I let out a groan.
Watching the Brisbane versus Carlton game on Easter Thursday just refreshed my memory on why I hate Channel Seven’s footy coverage.
While the aesthetic of all of the sets and scoreboards have been upgraded, it is still the same idiots running the cameras and the match broadcast. I’m sure I’m not the only person irritated by this.
While Eddie Betts’ hanger was a beauty I do not need to see it three times in a row, especially at the expense of the next line of play.
It’s always been this way with the Seven’s telecast of the footy – they love their replays.
I would much rather see the full line of play and then see the replay if they have to have one. The interruption drives me up the wall.
And I am certain that I’m not alone.
Personally, I preferred Channel Ten’s coverage. It didn’t get much better than relaxing on the couch for an hour of laughs on Before The Game, which led right into the Saturday night blockbuster.
They actually prioritised the continuing line of play over pointless replays. Take a hint, Seven.
The thing is, Channel Seven can do as they please because the only other alternative to watching their coverage is paying for Foxtel.
But that doesn’t mean their coverage has a licence to be terrible.

I am not a Dockers supporter but I was absolutely disgusted at theBIAS of the TV 7 come tatty team against the Dockers, particularly Dwayne Russell and Gerard Healy - really unprofessional guys.

Can someone tell me how I can make a complaint to Channel 7 AFL coverage. I am a Sydney Swans fan & proudly went to the Melbourne game today - a celebration of 30 years in Sydney. But at half time wrap up in the Richmond / Essendon broadcast game, they did not even use the name Swans. Oh we heard all about Mebourne's 100 point loss & saw a replay of a terrific mark by a Melbourne player - but they could not bring themselves to even name the team that won by 100 points - even though that team (Sydney Swans) is in the top 4. I have been a League fan all my life, but have become an avid Swans fan. I am on the verge of becoming an official Swans supporter & go to a number of their games. But I will have no officiation with AFL if the TV coverage is so blatantly pro Melbourne & so blatantly anti-Swans.

MB, if they have exclusive coverage until 2015, there is no reason for them to improve their coverage. After all, who can threaten them. Speaking of which, the AFL's stipulation that Seven has exclusive access to team lineups is censorship of a commercial kind!

Please, please, replays and camera panning to fans and coaches at end of quarters. As for the NRL, please let me see the plays without looking at an old man or cute chick in the crowd. Let me see the plays instead of a replay!!!

it was funny seeing the Ch.7 coverage in Tassie on FTA - they weren't running ads and we got those moments of silence and moments of non-commital talking during the time when ads would be running.

bigger issue is Brett Kirk. Interviews a player on the groung straight after the game and asks him something about his career not the actual game!!. Get him off.

Shame Ch7. From repeating again and again that Ben Jacobs is dating Vince's sister, to not having their priorities right when a screamer is taken, I have concluded that they suck. End rant.

Try watching channel 7's delayed telecasts in perth. Broadcast starts at 7pm (WST), TV kickoff is 7.40pm (game has almost finished over east) and broadcast finishes at 10.30pm WST.....suffice to say I don't watch friday night footy on CH7 as I already know the result well before qtr time. CH7 either broadcast the game live (perhaps 73mate like in sydney) or get rid of the 40mins of rubbish before the game so the tv kickoff time is 7pm (and get rid off the half-time rubbish as well). CH7 is disgraceful with their so-called live broadcasts.

Boys you want see some crap coverage, watch an nrl game on ch9. Commentary is garbage. I actually find the afl on 7 refreshing to watch. Didn't see the telecast, but apparently from what I have been told/read online, Channel 7's Saturday afternoon coverage of Essendon vs. Port was incredibly cringe-worthy, bizarre, laughable and all-in-all, pathetic. e.g. Did you know Ben Jacobs was dating Bernie Vince's sister? Just call the damn game Channel 7.

Yes, it was an awesome mark, and I certainly don't have a problem with a replay of a terrific grab, but I can see it twenty seconds later after the line of play has concluded.

I wonder if the license agreement stipulates stuff like number of replays for certain game events?! I wouldn't rule it out given I learnt on the weekend that the Ch7 commentary team are contractually obliged to remain silent during add breaks so as not to enhance the fox footy coverage who obviously shares the feed. What won't they put into these contracts.
