The public are sick of the Quade debacle

By Rabbitz / Roar Guru

I promised myself I would refrain from commenting on the pathetic Quade Cooper debacle. However I can not hold my tongue, no, pen, wait, keyboard any longer.

In fact the latest installments have me questioning my own raison d’etre for reading and contributing on this site.

Frankly the whole ARU versus Queensland versus NSW versus Nasser/Cooper versus et al thing is just simply pitiable. It is pointless, meaningless and downright embarrassing.

It really has no place being in the media – because it is all just fluff and ego.

It matters little to the actual rugby, you remember – “The game they play in heaven”?

It should be all about what happens on the pitch, not what sleazy machinations take place between consenting adults in board rooms.

It all bores me senseless.

All this raises the question – Why do I care?

I don’t know. I wish I could just ignore it and simply watch the footy. Apparently I can’t. To make matters worse it informs and colours my thinking when I do watch the footy.

I have come to the conclusion that all of this rubbish is a big part of the reason I find myself really struggling to bother to even pick up the remote and turn the TV on to watch the footy any more, let alone cough up real money to attend an overpriced game.

So let me address this next part to all of those involved in the debacle and I will put it into terms that even a not-so-bright and morally bankrupt rugby union official could understand:

It is dumb and makes you look like a gaggle of geese, but most of all it is boring and is driving away supporters, and therefore money.

Stop airing your dirty laundry in public and get on with providing us with good, entertaining rugby.

Agreed Mania. I was there, and the scene was electric. I attended with my wife's father, a NZer who thought I was worried when the score went to 24 nil. I was not. We lost of course in the end, but it was a fantastic thing to experience. Both of us are still talking about it 12 years on.

So a big man has a little trouble defensively. Well if he was so ordinary why the accolades from other players, legends of the game. You cherry pick to support your own taste. Think about it Mania. You have a guy if his size and power, immensely proud of the jersey... regardless of what you may think... lazy. Take goldie, his shocking game cost us in the World Cup where we lost to France. Who turns up Jonah. Show me a game Jonah has lost for the AB's. Find out what Laurie Mains thought of Jonah. I'm glad you read or Colin Meades. The guy plays with a debilitating condition which eventually becomes life threatening. What didn't he rub hard enough for you at training. I think the comment is it's like trying to run with a sack of spuds on your back. Methinks your vision is clouded by personal like and dislike in this case.

Big call Mania and in my book BS. That is the same baseless nonsense we give Red Kev such a hard time for. I don't intend to argue the case if you don't know what he bought to the game. A bully... he put his body on the line all the time. He didn't believe he could run over everybody, but he knew he could draw a lot of attention and improved his ability to return the ball. Personally I could care less how he played for your beloved canes. He was a legend, regardless of whether he has your respect and most respected rugby followers would agree. But like you I don't think Campo thought he was any good either. Fortunately for us the coaches all knew what value he bought to the team. Shame you never saw it.

SkinnyKid, I am not sure I agree but there is a perception that the "young smart a4se" and "metro" types do annoy a lot of supporters. I think it has always been like that however.

Rabbitz - I think (hope) hog was having a laugh. Your last line is funny because when I was half way through your post I was already thinking to reply with that exact line. I hate what's happening to Australian culture. Its cool to be a narrow mined bigot it seems. On that topic, have you ever noticed that the most hated players in Australian rugby seem to tick (or cross) a certain few boxes?

Like campo I think you just gotta cop all the shortcomings lomu had for the moments of magic. At least lomu is very humble and a great ambassador for the game post-career, shame I cant say the same for campo :D

i know jutsie - how can i put that game forward as the greatest ever when my antithesis jonah pulled our fat of the fire? even more hypocritical is the fact that i didnt like taineRandel either then (but after those games i became a taine fan). the reason i dont like jonah is because he never tried to improve himself. he was awesome to start with and he could've been better but he never bothered to learn. he never bothered doing extra fitness or just think about how he could contribute to the team. once frankBunce and ericRush left he became a conceited senior player and no one could tell him what to do, jonah knew everything and thought people were haters when they would try and tell him something. in cullens and goldies book they mentioned what a defensive liability he was. in chesterWilliams book he said they never discussed jonah in the team huddles, it was always about containing cullen, goldie and tana. jonah only bullied NH teams. vs the boks he was average and he never scored a try against them. then he came to wellington and was the most expensive piece of luggage the lions and canes ever bought.

shame about the result! I remember that old troll stephen jones trying to deride the game afterwards, what a party pooper. Mania I still dont understand why ur not fan of big jonah? he may not have been the perfect player but he provided so many moments that all supporters will talk about for the rest of their lives. The match-winning try in that game, using mike catt as a door mat in 95, tearing france to shreds in 99 (i loved the try where the french fb garbrajosa just stepped aside and ushered him across the line).

Only TEN threads feauring COOPER when I look at this site today. No doubt the others manage to to mention him It's a case of 'can you lot get a room' start a separate forum for all the QC stuff, for it is garbage, thousands of repetitive posts, posters saying the same tired old things on every thread. We had one on his Xmas list, I'm waiting for the NY list - will he get barred from the North Stradbroke hotels again? Will he revisit granny in Tokoroa? Get some yellow (or gold) superhero underwear with matching socks? Really, I can't wait. zzzz This used to be a rugby forum.

Thanks hog, you just proved the point. Unfortunately, the quality and tone of discourse here has declined sharply over the last couple of years. This was once a haven from the spite and bile of the usual commentariat but of late the bogan attitudes have abounded. A sad indictment of society really.

So a comment made by Kiwi's the most knowledgeable rugby public in the world is not worth listening to. Okay!!!

Totally agree. I've been on here since them too (under a different name) and honestly cant be bothered that often. The lack of rational debate is shocking. Basically most roarers now are ill informed trash talkers that clealy pick up their 'wisdom' from front bar talk, old freaks who's haven't moved on since the very early pro era (or even earlier), Kiwi trolls or people who just hate everything.

They were lucky against the poms. They gutsed out a win. It's all they've had since Ireland

The 350+ comments would be impressive if a great part were not juvenile and rabid. I have been posting in The Roar since 2009 but the standard of debate has really plummeted.
