The three amigos no laughing matter

By Worlds Biggest / Roar Pro

If the makers of the film the Three Amigos wanted to make a sequel, there is enough material featuring Kurtley Beale, Quade Cooper and James O’Connor. However this would be no comedy flick.

The events on the weekend in Durban involving Beale are yet another alcohol-fuelled incident for this once precocious talent.

Beale is starting to accumulate quite a rap sheet, his mate Cooper has controversy as his middle name and O’Connor is no eagle scout either – his absence, due to a hangover, from the 2011 World Cup squad announcement was embarrassing and disgraceful.

All three are talents on the field, however their off-field exploits overshadow they’re getting extremely well paid to do – play good, consistent rugby.

What an injured Beale was doing travelling with the Rebels to South Africa is beyond me. The guy seems to have a real problem with the drink and it must be addressed or his Wallaby career is over.

Which leads me to this, are the Wallabies better off without these three guys?

Logic says no, due to their ability and match winning qualities. However you could argue Beale and Cooper have not played well for two years at Wallaby level, whereas O’Connor has missed a lot of football due to injuries.

If the Wallabies team was picked on form today, only O’Connor would merit consideration and probably only off the bench.

My gripe with these three is that I want selfless team guys who cherish the gold jersey. These three have been mollycoddled for far too long.

The ARU, and Deans, simply must take a firm hand, they either shape up now or the Wallabies move on without them.

I think Cooper and Beale are in the last chance saloon, while O’Connor needs to start focusing more on football, now that he is fit. The Rebels need him, and that’s more important for his brand.

god I'm, getting sick and tired of these idiiots, I really am. Where does RUPA stand with all of this? I mean from what I can see they make sure that the bulk of the ARU's revenue is directed towards player wages rather than grass roots but allow these idiots to tarnish one of the unique attibutes of rugby union in this country - its integrity. The problem is that you have these league types ready to offer these blokes good money so the ARU are cornered to some degree. Its all good an well to tell him to p!ss off to league and perhaps they should - it does appear that they dont hold the jersey in the same regard as say a Will Genia or James Horwill.

JOC is now where near the player he was pre-injury. He seems to have lost his agility which was hiis major weapon. Perhaps by overdoing the weights? Perhaps he'll regain his former form but as it stands at the moment he could not be selected for any position in the 22 as thereare talented players better than him in every position.

When has Deans needed recent good form to pick one of his coffee crew for the Wallabies? They could be the 4th best performer at super level and still get picked. Deans is a selection muppet and that will never change. His great discoveries from the last 3 years has been in response to injuries so has hand had been forced. So many players who are deserving of higher opportunities have few to no caps due to his favouritism.

Fair enough Chivas, slow on the uptake. No chest beating going on here, just genuine discussion whether these guys are good for the Wallabies. It wasn't intended for public flogging, as you say everyone has there own opinions and the consensus seems to be that Beale needs help, Cooper is improving and JOC needs to play consistently. I happen to think that Beale and to a lesser extent Cooper are wearing out there welcome and could be on there last chance with the Wallabies. I hope they get there heads right and get back to playing good footy. We need all hands on deck.

For the record it was intended to add some levity to an article written which calls for public flogging. You are entitled to your opinion on the matter, but it is meant to be a rugby opinion site not just for those that need to beat their chest and get attention. Woman's day anyone.... So a bit of humour I thought would not go amiss. I'm not even a Warratahs supporter :-)

Chivas, this discussion has nothing to do with the Waratahs. It's about 3 blokes who may or may not be good for the Wallabies team culture.

Yes the Wallabies use breathalysers on agreed mornings. They are told a head of time if one will be used at the next session. Beale gas commented that he likes them to be used as it helps him to stay on track with his drinking. There are strict guidelines and consequences. Not sure about each super franchise. It is a club system to employ not an ARU one. The Force have used them in the past. Not sure if they still do.

Really? I have friends who own bars on Chapel street where JOC lives. While out with a liver injury he was still partying hard like a play boy uni kid. Just because it hasn't been a headline in the news does not mean that he has been in the straight and narrow. As for Beale: he still hasn't resolved his last assault charge while on a late night binge when injured with the Wallabies and he goes on to assault his captain and a team mate. Rip up his contract and serve the guy some humble pie. Without rugby what would you be KB? Perhaps a harsh reality check would help. Sweeping things under the carpet hasn't worked in the past so it is time for something new. Cooper I have no time for and don't respect him as a Wallaby. Play for the Reds and then box in the off season Cooper.

- PeterK qc did NOT throw any punches in the night club, so his guilt was being there? - QC was drunk, was ejected from one ub, refused entry to the pub that the punch up occured in and broke a girls phone. no charges were layed, but these are reported facts from the incident. He was not the driver or at fault in the car accident, so his guilt was being there? -he was recovering from injury, on a booze ban and had gone to melbourne without informing his team. Yes he bagged a computer game. -not just a computer game but a sponsor, whose money goes towards paying his and other players wages. its poor form. Yes he was honest and was a whistle blower about the toxic wallaby set up. -a whistle blower is someone that stands up for whats right.Cooper stood up in a purely selfish way. the fine he recieved and the fact he accepted it and didnt walk proves he was in the wrong. Yes he had drinks with his mates where someone ELSE got in trouble, so his guilt was being there? -he went to an official rebels club function without being invited. its more JOCs fault for inviting his mates along especially when he was captain of the team that weekend. but its not a good look for players to be drinking sponsor payed for beers at someone elses function. and yes, being present when someone else gets into trouble is bad. he is basically on probation. not being able to control the situation, remove yourself and mates from it shows a lack of leadership and judgement. Wow a young man has drinks with his friend but does nothing wrong himself. he isnt a young man, he is a representitive of his state and country on three quarters of a million dollars. he has responsability to his club, sponsors, fans, fellow players and coaches. whilst its nice to say hey, he is 24 and should be allowed to drink. its just not factual to his position within the community. im not saying he should be drawn and quartered or sacked or killed. just that he is responsabl for his own actions and he continues to show a lack of dicipline and judgement.

I'm sure the team and players will consider things and do what they determine to be best. That may or may not be what you or any other roarer thinks. Also they are a lot closer to actual events than a bunch of old gossips sharing there opinions. I'm not pointing the bone at you Campbell bit rather it came to mind how many self appointed judges we have commenting here. You'd think he had socked there mum. I'm pretty sure the captain can step up and speak for himself and will do so. It may not be in the spotlight like everyone wants... because after all what is better to some fans than public flogging a and condemnation. Bring back the freakin rugby. And just because I don't roundly condemn him doesn't mean I condone what he did. But I feel comfortable they will all grow a bit from this. But I don't see how this sort of frenzied rhetorical discussion helps the Warratahs win this weekend. And after all isn't that what's important :-).

When was the last time anyone can remember a player punching his captain?? Has it EVER happened before?? For team moral the Rebels players should be banding together and saying we don't want him in our team full stop, refusing to play with him etc. may be the only way to buck up his ideas!

FOS - He said he wouldn't play for us if selected. I like Quade and was glad he re-signed, but that is p1ss poor and not something that disappears by the next test match. Even if we lose, our 'yellow' jersey should be valued more than he did.

Malo I couldn't believe Beale laughing and carrying on after the Sydney Bledisloe last year. It was beyond belief, he just put in his worst ever game for the Wallabies and he has the temerity to laugh it off with $BW and co on the field post game.

JOC has played very little football over the last year and form to date nothing great and same with Beale his form is not good. Cooper has been patchy but looking better. Looking more like fringe rather than certain picks with Mogg and other brumbies good form.

The three amigos are the most overated, overpaid tools who should not ever where a wallaby jersey based on form and their many indescretions. Let them run amok in France and Japan and blood some Brumbie up and comers. I just love how they laugh with the opposition when they get flogged but hey the aru and deansy just cant get enough of them and believe their own hype. How QC got that way over the top contract was a joke but the aru most all have their snouts in the never ending trough.
