2013 NFL Draft: Live blog, updates [VIDEO]

By Chris Chard / Expert

While the season proper might not start until September, the 2013 NFL Draft is the must see off-season event for any American football fan. Join us for updates and commentary from 10.00am AEST.

The NFL Draft, making its first appearance in 1936, is now an established institution of American sport being beamed primetime to millions of viewers in the US and around the globe.

This year the draft will once again be held in New York City’s world famous Radio City Music Hall, and promises to deliver all the drama and excess fans have come to associate with the NFL.

Despite criticism that this year’s incarnation lacks the talent depth of last season’s draft that saw a host of high profile franchise quarterbacks selected, there are still plenty of reasons to get yourself ‘on the clock.’

In particular for fans down under the presence of three Australians in the draft is sure to generate extra interest, with Alabama tattooed heavy weight Jesse Williams joined by punters Brad Wing (LSU) and Alex Dunnachie (Hawaii).

While Williams has been predicted by many as a possibility to be selected in the draft’s first round (i.e. in the first 32 selected), Wing and Dunnachie are likely to go closer to being the draft’s ‘Mr Irrelevant’ (final player picked) than they are first cab off the rank.

Elsewhere lookout for Kansas and Jacksonville’s critical early picks and controversial Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o – how have his stocks held up post BCS Championship game and combine debacle?

And who the hell is his date?

As well as this there’ll be the usual draft day shenanigans of expensive suits, teary phone calls and trying to guess which picks will boom and which will ‘bust,’ as desperate teams go to great lengths under extreme pressure to secure the cream of college talent.

Join us at 10.00am AEST for all the action!

Yeah it seems that alot of teams took risk today, and jessee while good, doesnt seem to have alot of "potential" in the sense that his physicality is his best asset and you kinda know what you will get at NFL level. Hopefully a good D team picks him up.

El Gusto, Williams was a borderline 1st rounder but more likely second round pick. No one anticipated so many O lineman going in rd 1 which obviously hindered his chances. He should go second rd and maybe My Niners will pick with the second selection.

In all honesty elGusto I watched the ESPN coverage and I don't recall him getting a mention today, there are a lot of variables to take into account and even halfway through the draft people were touting him going in the low 30s A bit of a bummer, but he'll get picked in the second round for sure

Saw him in several games this past season. He's a gun defender. One of the Noles' most impressive players

The Niners could have taken either Elam or Cyprien at 31, not move up and give up picks. Mmmm not sure about that one ! What a day for the O-Lineman, never have so many been drafted in the first round. 1 QB and no running back's, extraordinary. What a big day tomorrow, there is so much talent on the boards. Chris great job mate, many thanks !

Well, we do have a need at safety. I suspect that, if Ozzie is looking to pick Teo, it'll happen in the 2nd or 3rd. Who knows what surprises Ozzie has in store?

Pick #32 And the World Champion Ravens select... Matt Elam, Safety from Florida! The Ravens brush the high profile Manti Teo and instead have chosen Elam to help re-build their defense after losing some experience in the off-season!

Geno Smith into the second round, incredible. This guy was in some earlier mock drafts as Number 1 and in many others at least a top15 pick. Tomorrow is going to be a huge day.
