Perth Glory dodging grenades: Burns

By Justin Chadwick / Wire

A series of “grenades” have dragged Perth Glory through the mud this A-League season, but skipper Jacob Burns is confident people will view things differently once the truth comes out.

The Glory have endured a season from hell both on and off the field.

Not only are Perth last on the table, but they have also been beset by a number of feuds behind the scenes.

Coach Alistair Edwards was sacked mid-season following his highly-publicised rift with a swag of players, while last month’s training bust-up between Burns and teammate Ryan Edwards showed tensions were still high.

Burns is out of contract at the end of the season, but he’s desperate to earn a new deal in order to help the club rebuild.

And he’s looking forward to the day when the full truth about this season’s controversies comes out.

“I must say there’s been quite a few hand grenades thrown in there that will be interesting in time when things come out and the truth and a lot of honesty is said,” Burns said on Wednesday.

“A lot of people around the game have voiced their opinion. I don’t know if they’re well informed opinions.

“But in good time some things may come out that may change people’s ideas of the goings on about the club.”

Burns wouldn’t elaborate on what the issues were, saying it’s important for the club to focus its energy on the remaining five rounds of the season.

Glory’s eight-game winless run has left them a daunting eight points adrift of sixth spot.

Perth face a tough task to turn around their fortunes against third-placed Melbourne Victory at nib Stadium on Saturday night.

Burns is likely to wait until the end of the season before starting contract talks with the club.

The 35-year-old is confident he can add value both on and off the field if the club choose to re-sign him.

“I love this club,” Burns said.

“This is very much my club – a club that I’ve enjoyed coming back to.

“I’ll tell you one thing, I won’t be playing anywhere else.”

Don't know what Burns is on, but I'd like to have some. .talk about surreal..has he looked in the mirror lately ??? Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the sneakiest of them all ??? Vukovic is gone, Thwaite needs to go, Zhara, Loewe, McGarry, all that mob of stirrers, out with the lot of them.... Come to think of it, SAGE should hand back the License and apologize for a complete cock up ..... It was supposed to be a season of rebuilding, looking into the future, instead it has turned into " Glory of Thrones " scenario. Bereft of skill, attacking options, no midfield, can't string 4 passes together , ahhhhhhh but we have " passion "...that's it...over the top lads..up and at them !!!! I ask Loewe about what he shouted to Sciola a weeks back .. " no fancy stuff ! " when he backheeled a pass.... Loewe , that's called skill , in case u don't know it.....but you wouldn't recognize it.....

No,,we need to convince Ross Lyon to change codes & take over as Coach! :) Or find a way to get him to give a "Scariness/Commonsense" transfusion for Kenny Lowe!

"There's too many grenades being lobbed", says the chief grenadier. And on that bombshell, good night!

Time's up Mr Burns "revenge is best served cold" and .. ." I'll crush him like an ant!!" Are a few of Montgomery's best known phrases but in this case "put on a brave face as you're walking out da door" is probably most appropriate . Any club worth their salt wont touch you wirh the proverbial barge pole -good day to you sir :-)

I'm sure Burns is desperate to get a new deal but to say it's because he wants to help rebuild the club is a bit of a stretch.

Exactly right - Burns has been in the middle of it all and for the Glory to rebuild a few outspoken players like himself need to go

Jacob won't be playing anywhere else. You'd have to be offered a contract for that to happen.

Since talking to the media about "hand grenades" constitutes a hand grenade I guess we can add one more to the list.

Perth Glory MUST fold immediately. If not, as was suggested, they NEED to relocate to Alice Springs and merge with NQ Fury. This is the only way out I can see
