Travelling to the nation’s capital is a dreaded trip for many teams in the NRL but history suggests that the Canberra Raiders will have a hard time dealing with today’s visitors, the Melbourne Storm. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 3.00pm (AEST).
Melbourne produced a miracle against the Dragons on Monday night, scoring a try after the siren to seal a terrific 24-22 victory.
Down 24-10 in the second half, it appeared that Melbourne were well on course for a third straight defeat until a terrific turnaround saw them get home.
Now, the Storm travel to Canberra to take on a Raiders side coming off a poor defeat to Newcastle last week.
The Raiders are yet to win at home this season and history suggests that they will remain winless come fulltime today.
Melbourne’s record in Canberra is outstanding to say the least. Craig Bellamy’s men have won their past four matches at the nation’s capital, which includes last year’s record 68-4 thumping of the Raiders.
For one reason or another, Melbourne always seem to click when playing in Canberra and will be very difficult to stop if they once again start quickly.
The Raiders have once again frustrated fans with their inconsistency. Their terrific win over the Rabbitohs several weeks back showed that they possess the power and skill to trouble any team in the NRL.
Back to back defeats to Penrith and Newcastle however once again proves that the Raiders remain a rocks or diamonds type of club.
On their day, the Raiders can beat anyone and if Anthony Milford, Reece Robinson and Terry Campese all fire, then they are a chance of upsetting Melbourne.
The Storm’s record in Canberra however speaks for itself and their victory over the Dragons should spur them on to another win.
Storm by 12.

Just had another look - thanks for the link - and in the cold light of day it still looks good for me. Anyway moving along now.

@1:24 you can clearly see the ball is on the ground and the try line is behind Waqa's elbow and the ball is front of the elbow.

Try for my money. Just gone up on YouTube; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpTsAybP_c4 This game is great to watch but the decisions are shocking and making a mockery of the game. They either need more camera angles or some other high tech solution, but the video ref as it stands is a big blight on the game, ruins continuity and should be removed until shown to be more effective than a coin toss (which it seems to be). The English approach where the video ref has to comment as he's replaying is light years ahead.

Just as the video judges couldn't be absolutely certain Dugan's foot was on the ground in last weeks controversial try,so it was with today's Waqa try.To the naked eye you can only make an assumption it grazed the ground..if there's no concrete shot of that happening they are required to go with the referees decision. They did what they were trained to do,the Channel 9 commentary team were right in feeling let down yesterday, but they were out of line today.

The linesman was behind Waqa and you can see why he didn't think it was a try because he would have seen it land short and if the ball touches the line its on the far side from him. So at the very least he would see is the bounce up and it not go back down before they go into touch. As for the main ref, he would have seen it land short and then wouldn't be able to see much else because Croker would block his view. Remember this is all happening at speed, so is it really that shocking they would err on the side of caution and go for "no try"?

The Storm had every chance to win the game in the 81st minute.

Is the game really corrupt? Sometimes I wonder.

Did you even watch the game planko? Maybe your criticism of slater has been warranted previously but today he was one of the best on the field. He's coming back from a serious knee injury and the World Cup has left him underdone but he will be firing come origin (yet again).

No fan of the Storm but that was a try for all money. The quality of the match officials is getting worse by the week

You are kidding? Last years finals every team outside Sydney was robbed! Talk about the game influencing the results. Nth Qld dudded and Melb were robbed against South Sydney. Not to mention the 7 clubs that went over the cap, easts testing positive for HGH. Have a good look at what the NRL really wants.

Officials have given the Storm 1 game this year and robbed them of 2 now ... not sure NRL even deserves to be called 2nd rate, more like 3rd rate the way they are going.

Give a thought too to those in Adelaide and Perth who don't get the Nine replay until after midnight.

I'm not a regular betting man planko however I don't mind the ad-hoc punt if I've got some free time and I'm down the pub with the mates.... Have only placed one bet in the opening 6 rounds because of how close the competition is.... that was the Sharks 13+ against the warriors which I got up. I felt confident this week though, so I punted on the doggies (win), Sharks (loss) and Raiders (win).... not a bad easter! I'm thinking a Parra-Penrith double tomorrow as well to round out the long weekend ;)

Fair decision. The cameraman definitely moved at the exact wrong moment. So if the ref can't see it he can't award it. The benefit of the doubt try was always woeful.

In an attempt to point out the obvious, the disallowed Melbourne try, from ch9 on tv, the player had the ball in his right arm, his left elbow hit the ground and you can see the line behind his forearm, his right ball carrying arm then puts the ball down. Of course it was over the bloody line. You only had two officials within 2 metres of the action. But yeah I can see why they had trouble figuring it out.

Up the north, I felt the same about Canberra. Far too many minor penalties applied to both sides
Ur kidding

Melbourne gets the benefit of the doubt all the time.all because the NRL needs a successful team in melbourne to promote the game.their supporters are outraged by 1 decision that went against them.the ref said he thort it was no try & so did the touchie who was right on the spot.suck it up.

If you discount the impact of what the camera angle does you could say it was clear, but take it into account you can't definitely say it was on the line without another angle to confirm it. There the cameraman is at fault because he moved the camera and messed up the coverage.
