Socceroos' World Cup squad for Brazil

By The Roar / Editor

Ange Postecoglou has unveiled the 30-man Socceroos squad that will carry Australia’s hopes at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Last week, Postecoglou announced that former Socceroos captain, Lucas Neill, would not be included in the squad. His intention to revive the Socceroos with youth, instead of leaning on experience has been reflected in his selections.

The task at hand for the Socceroos in Brazil is substantial, as they come up against the likes of Spain, Chile and the Netherlands in the appropriately named “group of death”.

When announcing the squad, Postecoglou made it clear that injuries had played a significant role in the selections. However, this offered a good opportunity to bring in new faces.

“There is some inexperience, for the majority of players this will be their first World Cup, but we do have some experience, and some experience that need to stand up.”

“We needed to regenerate the team and we that started that process pretty much from the day I was appointed.”

“We want to reward form and fitness and also have an eye to the future.”

Robbie Kruse and Rhys Williams are the notable omissions due to injury, and both would have played crucial roles in the Socceroos campaign if they were fit.

Defender Mark Milligan joined Postecoglou for the announcement, and expressed his excitement about being part of the squad: “It’s all come about quite quickly. Now that the squad’s been named, it’s exciting. We must grasp what Ange wants to do.”

Socceroos 30-man squad:
Mark Birighitti, Oliver Bozanic, Mark Bresciano, Josh Brillante, Tim Cahill, Jason Davidson, Ivan Franjić, Eugene Galeković, Curtis Good, Ben Halloran, James Holland, Mile Jedinak, Josh Kennedy, Mitchell Langerak, Mathew Leckie, Massimo Luongo, Ryan McGowan, Matt McKay, Mark Milligan, Tommy Oar, Tom Rogic, Mat Ryan, Adam Sarota, Matthew Špiranović, Adam Taggart, James Troisi, Dario Vidošić, Alex Wilkinson, Luke Wilkshire, Bailey Wright

"No issue of daylight saving, just a funky timezone thing I hadn’t noticed before." I'm intrigued. Which city lies to the west of Cuiaba, but has a time-zone that is 1 hour ahead of Cuiaba?

Who said I was in the US? Latin America - No issue of daylight saving, just a funky timezone thing I hadn't noticed before. Good news is the first game falls just outside business hours, so I appreciate the heads up.

@Redsback I embrace (metaphorically ... not a Rolf Harris embrace) anyone & everyone, who embraces our Beautiful Game. Anyone & everyone - all cultures, ethnicities, socio-economic backgrounds, skin colour, religion .. heck, I'm even willing to embrace those who voted for Tony Abbott's disgusting government! But, if anyone thrash-talks the Game with ignorant comments & prejudice, I'm happy to start typing. It's really not very difficult to get access to every ALeague football LIVE at the click of a button. Fior those, who find it difficult to use Google, I've provided the link: http://www.aleague.livesport.tv/ At $0.50 per game, I think it should be affordable to most ex-pats in the USA .. if they really do love the Game. PS: In relation to the 1 hour time difference, you'll probably find it's because the USA has daylight savings during June-July because it is summer in the Northern Hemisphere; but Brasil is in the Southern Hemisphere (just like AUS) and it's winter and no daylight savings during June-July.

How about that. Cuiaba is east of me but an hour behind - bizarre. As for your comment, it's possible for a person to enjoy more than one sport. Not living in Australia, it is basically impossible to follow the A-League, but I watch just about all Socceroos games, which typically involves getting up bloody early in the morning to watch a pretty average stream in Japanese/Arabic. I really don't see the value in giving it to people just because they aren't (or physically cannot be due to their location) as active of a supporter as you are.

Peeko You're not necessarily a stranger to me I post on different sports threads here too. I 'd suggest the moderators here could do a little better job in moderating . YourLiege is the only one of 180 odd posts who states this nasty filthy behaviour ,suggesting our national team will bring more or less nothing but shame to our nation over there, team full of drongos and humiliation in front of the world are some of the quotes he's blurted , I mean fair dinkum . I dont even hear that type of stuff about our Wallabies or Kangaroos on the Rugby L @ U threads. He'd gain a little more respect if he just simply said they've no hope but enjoy the ride. Sometimes we shouldn't retaliate to stupidity I guess ,but at times its not easy to do. Enjoy your sports...

No, I follow most sports but not much AFL. I just think the football fanatics get nowhere by calling other sports meaningless. As stated in my previous comment, I find comments like those by "your liege" quite boring and rubbish. Then again the anti football brigade seem to feed comments like "meaningless regional sports" and Afl World Cup

Fuss - Fond memories of 1974. Early in that year 2 pals and myself had been playing around inviting Sydney teams to Brisbane to play pre- season friendlies. We played at Perry Park,(near the airport) and the agreement was we would meet all costs, flights,a meal and transport to and from the airport. The local power brokers ,the QSF, didn't want to know. We brought Hakoah and St George up,both enjoying the experience.Remember this was 3 years before the NSL began. Then came the worry.Rale Rasic went into print stating he could not get competition for his Socceroos, On the phone and told him he could come to Brisbane under the same terms. Rale jumped at the idea. All hell broke loose,The QSF wanted a Queensland team to provide the opposition but when asked to underwrite the bill, ran a mile. The Socceroos duly came and played our club team. They won 6 or 7 -0 but that mattered not at all, eleven young men from Brisbane had played "their" Socceroos, around 2000 attended the "friendly",seeing 'their ' Socceroos and the maneuverings of the QSF officials at the reception had to be seen to be believed.Such was football in 1974. "if anyone relies on your timetable, they are going to miss the first half hour of each match." Why is that? The times I've given are the SBS broadcast times. If people, who live within the AEST zone rely on my information, they will have the opportunity to grab a cup of coffee put some croissants in the oven & listen to Les, Foz & Ned discuss the game for 1/2 an hour. The official kick-off is 1/2 hr after the broadcast starts. Official match times: http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/matches/index.html PS: Good to know people, who actively despise Football are so interested in the WC. I'll be honest, I have zero interest in the biggest sporting competitions for AFL, NRL, Cricket or RU. But, to prove I'm not uni-dimensional, I did watch the Men's 100m final at the London Olympics.

The AFL fans are out in numbers today in this blog, I wonder why, it's an Australian team....ummmm. My AFL mate at work tells me Australia has never lost a game in the AFL world cup. I told him Australia has never lost to world champion Spain in football.

Yes Griffo, was singing it with gusto, oh what a night. I wasn't not far fro, where this was taken, near the recently late Neville Wran, who was bopping away as well.

Going overseas has helped a number of these guys secure a spot - Halloran for example. I think the message is - be careful about your choice of destination. Choosing the bench at a bigger club, or the money in the Middle East, is not going to be looked on as favorably as first-team football in one of the lower-leagues (HAL included).

Mate, if anyone relies on your timetable, they are going to miss the first half hour of each match. Personally spewing as every game falls within business hours where I am. You got me excited for a minute as the 7:30am on Saturday instead of 7:00am would have meant only 30mins during work hours.

YourLiege The Western Sydney Wanderers have just beaten Sanfence Hiroshima 2-0 to advance to the Quarter Finals of the ACL. It could've been 4-0. Another landmarked moment for Australian Football .

Without Lucas Neill, Australia need to work very hard to win the FIFA World Cup Title. I am praying very hard for the Australia to win the FIFA World Cup. They need more forwards like Tim Cahill, Mile Jedinak, Ben Halloran and Curtis Good. If they can do this, then they will demonstrate decent kicking skills.

Bondy- what is really pathetic is that you don't know the difference between "you're"and "your" and you also don't know what irony is. Don't they have schools where you grew up.
