Manchester United, please stop wasting money

By William Cornwill / Roar Guru

When Manchester united went out and bought Robin van Persie I thought it was a good move. Someone to complement Wayne Rooney up front and help them push for the title again.

Like most I thought they still needed a good defensive player, probably two or three to help the likes of Chris Smalling.

Then they decided that it would be a good idea if they would get another two strikers. Breaking the EPL budget on Angel Di Maria and also splashing the cash on Radamel Falcao.

So in reality they had if not the best, one of the best attacks in world football. Which was good and exciting for their supporters and for lovers of football in so many ways to see four of the best strikers in the world playing in the same team.

Yet the question was how they were all going to fit in and play together. Down the track it’s been found out they can’t. At least one of them has to sit on the bench for half of the game, which would become very frustrating for any one of these players considering the amount of talent they have.

But they still haven’t got any good defenders, while Marouane Fellaini is a defensive midfielder who can’t fit into their team. So they probably have the weakest defence in the league, which isn’t going to get them near the top two teams in the league – Chelsea and Manchester City.

And now there are rumours circulating that they have put in a huge bid for Gareth Bale. They could get three world class defenders with the money they have already wasted on one too many strikers, never mind getting Bale in as well.

The question has to be asked of the Manchester United board, do they want to be an excitement machine, or do they want to win the EPL?

Currently 0-0 against Tottenham, 74 minutes played. Granted they have been unlucky, but I have counted at least three chances that players of their caliber should have been able to finish.

With the forward power that have scoring less than 2 goals in a match is unacceptable

I should hit him up for when I'm older. Maybe it's in his genes!

Their team kind of reminds me of a body builder that has forgotten to train legs. What they should have done is split the money they spent on huge names to get good players all over the pitch- especially in defense. The players they have now will do okay as they gain Premier League experience, but that will take a while. 1-1 draws against ten-man teams are not good enough.

Having seen parts of the Christmas press conference on the television,I'm more worried about the money being spent on Louis Van Gaal's hair dye! I know he has those great Dutch longevity genes, but at 63, I'm surprised that his hair is darker than Van Persie's, and obviously more luxuriant than Arjen Robben's.

LvG is not being helped by the injury curse that seems to have fallen on MU...LvG has used some 37 players so far this season, and I would snuggest that MU has not fielded the same back line twice in a row as yet...certainly they have not fielded the first choice back line twice in a row. But as a fan, I would agree that if any money is to be spent then LvG should look for a hardened centre half. Alas Sir Alex held onto the Vidic/ Ferdinand pairing for too long and did not give the young defenders a chance to learn alongside Vidic. United should have sold Ferdinand years ago...Vidic covered up his mistakes a lot in recent seasons, and keeping Ferdinand prevented MU from allowing players like Smalling to develop alongside Vidic.

They should check out a few of the German league defenders. Some great young defenders out there.
