Yep and he didn't actually play against any minnow's this WC apart from Scotland in a rain shortened game. He got the runs in important games.

And this is why I hate trying to post comments from my iPad, my English deteriorates rapidly. Apologies to people if they and try and read through some of that mess. Should also add that on reflection I think maxwell should definitely be a 9/10, my memory is poor. Also finch should be above Warner, I don't know if I'd give either much more than a 6 at the very most though.

Finch made big scores in two crucial games - the semi final and Australia's opening game against England. He didn't have a good World Cup but he certainly doesn't deserve less than 6/10 and certainly not 1/10 less than Warner who made zero big scores in important games and had his stats puffed up by a romp against minnows Afghanistan.

Geez some of these ratings are really off the mark. Hazlewood gets a 6.5/10 which would suggest he was pretty average. He had a sensational tournament, particularly in the 3 finals when he took 5 wickets at 21 while, more importantly, choking the opposition batsmen with his tight line and length which created opportunities for others. He went at just 3.8rpo across the three finals, which is sensational in this era of extreme high scoring. Warner, meanwhile, gets a 7/10 when he only made two scores above 34 from 8 games and one of those was against the minnows Afghanistan. Faulkner only gets a 7/10 despite being MOM in the final and taking 10 wickets at 16 in Australia's four most important games - the 3 finals and the must win game against Sri Lanka. Maxwell was picked in the ICC team of the tournament after averaging 65 with the bat at an unbelievable strike rate of 182 and doing a good job with the ball...and only gets an 8/10?

May as well say the same thing about Maxwell then if you're going to judge Watson that way. By the way, Sri Lanka and Pakistan aren't minnows.

I for one would like to celebrate a completely dominant World Cup performance and acknowledge the best ODI team in the world today, before dropping half of them for underperformance. But then I always was a big softy.

Watto is always held to a unique standard. Uniquely harsh by the punters. Uniquely generous by the selectors.

Pretty generous with Warner. Lacks consistency to be a valuable ODI performer. Too many starts and only the one substantial score. allbeit a biggie. He and Finch are a liability at the top of the order. The selectors should provide some more stability. Perhaps Shaun Marsh or Joe Burns would be more stable options. Watson should go and be replaced by Mitchell Marsh. I would also like to see room made for Callum Ferguson and Chris Lynn if possible.

Josh Hazlewood should have got more games. Would have doubled his wicket tally. Watson figures are super inflated. Got most of his runs either against minnows or when not under much pressure. Thus the high average as he had several not outs.

I am pretty sure bangladesh, ireland and NZ had something to do with that as well.. M.Marsh's 5fa would be impressive if the afghanis didnt spank him with ease..

There is certainly a case to be made in shuffling finch up a little and Warner down, the semi final knock was certainly important and maybe I make to much of a fuss about the way he looked, probably an overall fault of how I rated them both, Warner always looked good and mostly got himself out, where as finch looked poor almost without abatement, maybe I allowed the technical display and comfort affect the rating more than I should have compared to the actual scores they posted. Then again apart from those 2 innings against England and India finch really failed impressively. Watson is an enigma for me, the first game or two after the order shuffle I was impressed and if you had asked then I would have rated a lot higher but I don't know I just do not feel him. Certainly the rating I am least confident I gave, and am happy to accede to others there. Brad haddin could certainly be an 8 it's hard to judge him as he really wasn't required to bat much but his keeping was excellent. Same issue with maxwell as I had with finch I think, I love watching him play the massive strokes but at the same time his wicket always looks like it could come the next ball. I let that effect my score it is hard to fault him but he bat wise I felt he tailed off a bit in knockouts. I have been really impressed with his bowling mostly, I know that's strange to say but he everyone kept talking about teams taking it to our 5th bowler and maxwell never really got taken to (that I can recall) a few bad balls and the occasional big over but took some nice wickets and usually held an end very ably through the middle.

Mattw I think your ratings are a lot better and more accurate than presented in this article. I agree Finch was underwhelming. He scored runs in two innings, the first against England when he should have been out on zero, and the second in the semi-final when he batted so selfishly slow that he actually curtailed our ability to create a bigger team score. Warner probably deserves a 4, if you take out the 178 he made against Afghanistan. I thought Maxwell was superb this tournament and could easily be given a 9. Crucial innings with the bat during the pool games and wasn't required in the finals, and he had the 2nd best strike rate in the tournament (marginally behind McCullum). Bowled ok throughout and field brilliantly. I thought Watson was probably a 7 out of 10, given the way he finished the tournament. His batting was perfect once he returned to the team lower in the order and he absorbed pressure for the team really well. Haddin was worth at least 8 for mine. Brilliant with the bat (with the few opportunities he had) and gloves.

Don, I've got Maxwell in there.... Riaz got more wickets in less games and had a great economy rate. I know MJ delivered in the two biggest matches but you gotta judge across the tournament. Dhawan actually had two centuries - i don't rate the Indian team but credit where it's due. He scored in the big games. Pumping Dougie, Actually made a fair case as to maybe McCullum being there instead of Guptill.

I would have thought McCullum did enough to get in ahead of Dhawan, but it would be close. Good call on Brendan Taylor. I would have had Imran Tahir over Morkel.
