Super Rugby Australian player ratings: Round 9

By PeterK / Roar Guru

Here are my player ratings from Round 9 of Super Rugby.

Submit your own, keeping the figures for mediocre scores aside for reasons of brevity and so that the focus is on the best and worst performers.

Scores should be included for anyone over seven and anyone below four – so for very good and poor performances. Half scores are allowed i.e. 7.5, 3.5 and so on.

Please submit your own scores for a whole team. The minimum is one team, there is no obligation to score all the games. I average the scores per team by the number submitted.

I will compile everyone’s submitted team scores and produce Wallaby form teams later in the week. There will be one team of the round and three accumulative teams.

My internet has been unavailable since Friday so no game synopsis from me.

Correction, It was Kolbe for the push pop The one involving JuanD was a Damian dA try. That was off a Foley pass that was intercepted by JdJ before passing to DdA for 7 points

few things Pete: - kicks as you mentioned - restart mistakes early in game - charge down 2nd half - soft forward pass in redzone - pushed pass, leading to TO / counter attack / JdJ try - Mostly lack of attack leadership between 65' onwards when the Stormers put up their blanket D (which was their SOP from many years back)

robc - Did you give Foley a 3 because of missed goal kicks?

Pocock was a beast. I'm giving him 9.5/10. The epitome for what a flanker should be (personal opinion of course) and he was truly awe-inspiring to watch. If he continues this return to form, I can easily see him being a critical component to the Wallabies chances of winning in the RWC.

Are you serious he was named MOM? Threw poor passes, was monstered in defence, made errors, was in the losing team. The only decent thing he did all game was get a linebreak. Him being named MOM on screen at the ground actually makes me angry. How some seriously deluded people find themselves in positions of power...

Do not agree. He is a very good defender and solid general player kicker. He is not a playmaker. Also his attack is mediocre. I would not consider Toomua as a 10 since he is not a playmaker. The wallabies lack penetration in their attack. Kerevi is a far better attacker than Toomua. A good defender as well. 2nd playmaker just has not worked for the wallabies, I prefer 1 genuine playmaker and 2 big attackers at 12 and 13.

PeterK, I know you're a Tahs man and that's great but you've got to get off the Skelton bandwagon and just let this player develop. Really, 8.5? For running 7m off 16 runs? Dropped balls? Walking around the park? He drew 2 very small backs at about 12m and handed off to Kepu, which was nice. Showed presence of mind. But you say he was the Tahs' best player and only half a mark off Pocock. The Tahs got absolutely smashed by the Stormers who were able to rest Vermuellen. Not the Tahs' forwards' best weekend.

Peter - Toomua would be about our 2nd back picked, whether at 10 or 12. You should iclude him in your options.

james agree mostly I would like to see QC 10, Kerevi 12 and Kuridrani 13. Or Foley at 10. Toomua is not creative enough , and if he is picked at 10 then you have to put CL at 12 to make up for it. Also if you have Toomua 10, Kerevi 12 and Kuridrani at 13 you must pick JoC for his goal kicking. Both QC and Foley are goal kickers Toomua is not. IF CL goes well at 10 over the next 7-8 weeks then I would like to see CL 10, Kerevi 12, Kuridrani 13.

and considering 5 were for props scrumming well, dominating the opposition. Remove those and it is an average of 3.

Hello

Roar Rookie

That is certainly worth thinking about. I have to question Kerevi's ability to distribute the ball cleanly. My other worry is we will not have a true ball player with a bit of creativity (i see CLL in this role for the brumbies) it might be a case we with these 2 in the centers and play beal at full back with Speight and Falou on the wings.

I've started thinking about our midfield combinations if Cooper can't get back in time. Does toomua have the creativityy to play 10? He's not bad att the simple distributing and can offload. He's a reasonable punter. But is he any worse at these than Foley? How do they compare at game management? How are they at putting their outside guys through gaps? Because if Toomua plays 10, you can play Kerevi and Kuridrani in the centres. Kerevi is surprisingly agile for a big guy. It gives us some serious line breaking ability in the midfield, and big defence. Toomua is a good defender for a 12, but huge for a 10. Kerevi can offload, but what's he like on longer torps both sides? Will Speight and Folau out wide see enough ball with that combination? Might be worth giving it a whirl to see how it goes.
