[VIDEO] Floyd Mayweather def Manny Pacquiao highlights: fight result, round-by-round updates

By Isaac Nowroozi / Roar Guru

It’s arguably the biggest fight in the history of boxing, between the two current best fighters in the world. Undefeated American Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather Jr will finally take on Filipino legend Manny ‘Pac-Man’ Pacquiao. Join us on The Roar from 11:00am AEST for live commentary and round-by-round updates.

Six years in the making, the 12-round fight will see Mayweather put his WBA Super Welterweight title, WBC Welterweight and The Ring Welterweight titles on the line.

Pacquiao will put his WBO Welterweight championship on the line.

Mayweather, 38, holds a professional record of 47 wins with no losses, 26 of those wins coming via knockout. Winner of several world titles in five different weight classes, ESPN’s current number one ranked pound-for-pound boxer is just two wins shy of Rocky Marciano’s iconic 49-fight unbeaten streak.

Pacquiao, 36, holds a professional record of 57 wins in 64 fights, with 38 of those wins coming via knockout. Since his professional fighting debut in 1995, Pac-Man has only been beaten five times, most recently in 2012 against Juan Manuel Marquez.

He has since won three straight in dominant performances against Brandon Rios, Timothy Bradley and Chris Algieri.

Financially, Mayweather versus Pacquiao will be the biggest boxing event of all time- and will set a record that may not ever be beaten. ‘Money’ Mayweather is set to pocket between $150-$160m USD for the fight whereas Pacquiao will pocket between $90-$100 USD. Pay-Per-View costs in Australia are $59.95 AUD however American fight fans will have to pay up to $100 USD for the bout.

Tickets for the fight ranged from $3400 USD to $100,000 USD. Despite the MGM Grand having a capacity of around 16,500, the live gate is set to collect upwards of $70m USD.

It’s a fight that the entire world has wanted to see since 2009, and both men believe that they have the tools to defeat the other and the cement their legacy in boxing.

Prediction:
Mayweather has a very defensive style, whereas Pacquiao has a very offensive one. If Pac-Man can’t finish him within the first half of the fight, expect Mayweather to take out another unanimous decision victory.

Will Floyd Mayweather Jr finally silence the critics, or will Manny Pacquiao prove that he is the number one pound-for-pound boxer in the world?

Join us on The Roar from 11am AEST for live commentary to find out.

Just learned that Mayweather has dropped all of this belts, I reckon that he is now going after the middleweight division, he has nothing left to prove in the welterweight division. I f Cotto wins he fight against Geale, Mayweather will probably go after him again. Or he may do an interesting move a challenge GGG. Personally I would love to see that fight.

I can't believe he thought he won, though explains why he rolled over in the final round.

Dead right. The people I was with said they wanted a rematch and it was likely, but, why? Besides to make another $150 million the two don't have much to gain from another fight.

Thanks Steve, agree that Mayweather showed a superior boxing skill set on the night and would do so again.

I'm biased so I won't comment on the decision. But this is exactly why Pacquiao had to win it early. He was never going to beat him on points or trying to outbox him. Even if he did throw more punches and fight with more aggression, judges will always favour Mayweathers style. Manny held back and paid the price. He should have known better.

Good comment Hughster: I've just escaped from Yahoo comments, where people are apparently upset because there weren't enough 'fireworks' (ie no-one got choke slammed through a plywood table). I *wanted* Manny to win, but Mayweather put on a masterclass, and there is no doubt now that he is the superior boxer by quite some margin. They could have 10 re-matches and it would come out the same way. To be honest, I think Maidana did a better job of taking Mayweather out of his comfort zone.

Good call Isaac, the boxer beat the fighter. Great skills on show but Mayweather outboxed Pacquiao in the championship rounds. Thanks for your reportage.

Nice commentary Isaac. You had it even at around round 7 or 8 and then Mayweather picked it from there and won. People berate Mayweather a bit for the win but he did fight like champion. Pac Man was awsome but just couldn't quite do it. Close

IronAwe: I must admit I thought Manny won as well but I really know nothing about the scoring etc. Isaac seemed to be really spot on with it all - it's good that the Roar had such a knowledgeable caller for this bout

Don't know much about boxing but... Everything I have read with live updates says Mayweather hit Pacquiao more. Mayweather wins as a result. Can't really be argued with.
