NRL Rookie contestant submits video of himself running through a brick wall

By The Roar / Editor

David Andjelz is a crazy person. This much we know.

The University of Western Sydney business student entered his submission for the Channel 9 reality show, The NRL Rookie, looking to differentiate himself from the other contestants posting videos of themselves in the gym.

“I saw all the videos on NRL Rookie of people lifting weights, thought to myself, ‘what’s that got to do with footy, yeah it helps you physically, but it’s (what’s in your heart) that counts”

And so, naturally, his mates constructed a brick wall in a Blacktown backyard and Andjelz proceeded to run through it.

You know, because sports.

His antics have gone viral across the internet, being picked up by US sports media empire, Bleacher Report as well as doing the rounds on Australian radio this morning after being initially picked up by Triple M.

For his part, Andjelz seemed to escape any serious injury and will now have to wait to see if his efforts have earned him a crack at earning an NRL contract on the show.

For anyone else thinking of applying, you’ve got until May 15 to get in your videos of yourself breaking whole watermelons over your head, punching yourself in the groin and any other football-related skills you would like to showcase to the world.

Exactly. Obviously a person can not run through a brick wall, but even if they are stacked bricks it's still going to hurt a little. The more worrying thing is that some people clicked on this article expecting to see a man run through a real brick wall.

Did he really just set this up for the pun "tougher than a brick ****house?"

I think a bit of "lighten up" juice might be needed here. It was an audition tape for a reality tv stunt. No harm, no foul. Having said that, anyone who can bicycle kick a drop goal will certainly get my vote.

Hardly a brick wall as has already pointed out it's merely a stack of bricks, I'm just surprised he didn't injure himself more on the loose bricks as he landed on them. 6 year old kids running around playing barefoot ripper league could bust through that 'wall' and I use that word loosely much like the bricks were stacked loosely

That's the stupidest thing I've ever seen. It's not very impressive when you have two blokes holding the stack of bricks so it doesn't fall over. Shaun Johnson could run through that

Yep, just a stack of bricks, i could lay the wall myself (certified Bricklayer) and run through it (it would have to be green though, hahaha.) "Bricks don't hit back."

I admire the kid for using his initiative to get noticed. Perhaps the NRL can hold trials once a year for anyone wishing to try out for a contract etc. it could be televised over a week. This event could potentially open the door to another player resource etc?

As funny as this is, the clubs probably see this and just think of the possible repercussions of recruiting a guy like this. Matt Lodge is in the video and they are obviously all mates. And we all know the trouble he has found himself in recently. Probably a red flag for the show if you ask me.

Note to self: don't sign construction contract with the author or editor. That's not a brick wall. That's a stack of bricks.
