Queensland's State of Origin team leaked: report

By The Roar / Editor

The team announcements for Game 1 of the 2015 State of Origin series are scheduled to be officially announced on Monday, May 18.

However, Southern Cross outlets released a potential line-up on Thursday morning, reported to have come from a “well-sourced rugby league insider”.

Mal Meninga will reportedly name Billy Slater at fullback, Cooper Cronk at halfback, and Greg Inglis in the centres.

Fans will be nervous regarding the form of Darius Boyd, who has been named despite playing just one game this season. In a similar boat is Justin Hodges, who has notched up just the two games in 2015.

The most notable absentee from the team would have to be Dane Gagai, who many predicted had done more than enough to earn the nod.

The only debutant listed on the below team is Bronco Josh Maguire.

The opening game of the 2015 State of Origin series is set to take place at ANZ Stadium in Sydney on Wednesday, May 27.

Team
1. Billy Slater (Storm)
2. Darius Boyd (Broncos)
3. Justin Hodges (Broncos)
4. Greg Inglis (Rabbitohs)
5. Will Chambers (Storm)
6. Johnathan Thurston (Cowboys)
7. Cooper Cronk (Storm)
8. Matt Scott (Cowboys)
9. Cameron Smith (Storm)
10. Nate Myles (Titans)
11. Sam Thaiday (Broncos)
12. Aidan Guerra (Roosters)
13. Corey Parker (Broncos)

Bench
14. Josh Maguire (Broncos)
15. Josh Papalii (Raiders)
16. Daly Cherry-Evans (Sea Eagles)
17. Jacob Lillyman (Warriors)

Napa will probably be 18th Man. He's too young to be ready for origin

I was more thinking due to the history of him being snubbed; missed game 1 last year, brought to the bench in game 2 and barely used (didn't come on until the second half and wasn't on for long), then put into the game 3 side when Matt Scott was injured.

Lillyman started in the last game. Hardly a surprise.

"Mal Meninga will reportedly name Billy Slater at fullback, Cooper Cronk at halfback, and Greg Inglis in the centres." Who would have thought! :O

I would have had Napa there before McGuire. Hoping I'm wrong but I don't see McGuire as being up to Origin standard. I don't rate the guy. Then again, bring him on whenever Aaron Woods is on and it'll be sweet as neither will have much impact. I don't rate Woods highly either. Gallen is out then I'd find a spot for a workhorse like Tolman.

Gavin Cooper would get a look in ahead of Lowe.

With the exception of Lillyman, there are absolutely zero surprises here.

Who is the editor here? Justin Hodges has missed two games this year, not played two. And for the record Josh "Jerry" Maguire prefers to spell his surname McGuire.

The team that picks itself gets leaked, oh my. It is kind of amusing to compare this with all the hand-wringing generated over who should play for the Blues.

100% agree with this team. The bench have to be drilled into their role of impact players so should get the best out of them for the minutes they're on, Papali especially. Gillett hasn't been up to Origin standard and made mistakes at crucial times last year and so has Dave Taylor. All the guys named can hold on to the ball and can catch a ball in traffic, something that those two seem unable to do. If they need more mobility in games 2/3 than Mcqueen can come in if his form keeps improving.

I'd say there's plenty of loyalty there if you can only come up with two names out of a possible 17.

they've shown loyalty towards those two numerous times (especially Gillett.) Big difference between showing loyalty towards two bench players who haven't quite done their job and showing loyalty to out of form superstars/players returning from injuries.

Hodges has missed 2 games this season(2 and a half if you include the dragons match). Not only played 2.

This could be a fake but it would still be 100% accurate. Must be a slow news day.

I am a Cowboys fan, and I don't think he is ready. Is still a bit raw. Maybe the kind of player to come into origin thoughts next year. No need to rush him or Michael Morgan. They will get their chance in the future if they are consistent with form.
