Michael Jennings wins man of the match in Origin 2

By The Roar / Editor

Blues centre Michael Jennings has claimed man of the match honours in Game 2 of the 2015 State of Origin series.

Speedster Jennings was electric in NSW’s 26-18 victory, scoring the Blues’ first try early in the first half and creating plenty of space and opportunity down the left hand side of the field.

He combined very effectively with Trent Hodkinson, Brett Morris and Ryan Hoffman, all of whom had very solid games.

Jennings’ early try laid the platform for the rest of his match.

He was involved strongly from the very beginning, searching for carries out of the Blues’ half and earning plenty of metres in the process.

In defence, he handled his opposite Justin Hodges very effectively, nullifying Queensland’s right side attack with great competence.

In attack, Jennings had several offloads to go with plenty of metres, and he was a constant threat with his speed and step. Although he didn’t receive too many more opportunities in the Maroons’ red zone, the threat was there for the rest of the match.

NSW ran out winners of Game 2 by eight points, setting up a mouthwatering decider in Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium in three weeks time.

Jennings is a bit of an enigma as he has so much skill but you can watch one of his games and never sight him doing anything spectacular. When he is "on" he is magical, but the same could be said of Krisnan Inu, Dave Taylor and a few others. Jennings at 27 is in the prime of his career having much experience and immense speed.

He's been frustrating the last few years because he's looked dangerous but barely touched the ball and almost never with space. He certainly showed last night what he can do with a bit of room to move. Hodges and DCE will be having nightmares of him receiving the ball.

Massive first 30 minutes in particular. I think Jennings has been one of the blues best over the last 3-4 years. It's tough for his type of player when the teams are only 3 metres apart for so long. But overall I thought Tamou was outstanding.

Best game in Origin and deserved MOM although a few of the forwards would have been in the mix too. This game showed that you must give Jennings early ball in space and he needs to go looking for it which he did tonight.
