Gorden Tallis offered $50,000 to fight David Klemmer

Queensland rugby league legend Gorden Tallis will be offered $50,000 to box NSW Origin forward David Klemmer after declaring he would have punched the feisty Blues player if he’d gotten in his face on the field.

Tallis criticised Klemmer after the Canterbury youngster seemed to have a running battle with most of the Maroons’ pack in the second Origin clash at the MCG.

“I didn’t run in and push people and stand there and do all that,” Tallis said on Triple M radio.

“Everybody forgets, I never ran in and pushed. Yeah, I did punch people when they got in my face. He (Klemmer) would’ve been one of them, 100 per cent.”

New Zealand-based Duco Events is prepared to pay Tallis to punch Klemmer in Hamilton on December 5 in their annual Fight for Life charity boxing show.

Participants on previous shows have included Blues captain Paul Gallen, Sam Thaiday, Greg Bird and Willie Mason.

Proceeds of this year’s event will go to Hospice Waikato.

“Given Gorden’s comments we’d would like to offer Gorden the opportunity to fight against David Klemmer,” Duco Events director David Higgins told AAP on Thursday.

“We will pay Gorden $50,000 Australian and we will pay for his training expenses.

“If Gorden was serious then we would go to David.

“The fight is good timing, they are clear of any rugby league commitments.

“The fight will be (over) three two-minute rounds, wearing headgear and 16-ounce gloves.

“This is a bona fide genuine offer. Fight for Life has been going ten years and numerous celebrities, politicians and sports stars have tried their hand at boxing.

“It’s raised millions of dollars for charity.”

Online bookmaker Sportsbet.com.au posted odds on the proposed fight, listing Klemmer at $1.10 and Tallis at $7.00.

We need Ennis in there now that Farah is out, this is a must as Ennis is a great organiser and he would get the Blues pack working and Klemmer especially into gaps that Farah doesn't and can't do. It would be really special to see Ennis in the Blues colours and especially for this decider so that he can prove once and for all if he is good enough and his form reflects what we all know he can do against the best.

Gordie says this from the safety od his coommentary box at Triple M, I'll like to see him say that to his face. I love how this ex players all say that they could beat up the youngsters these days. Granted he could probably take him out but sometimes you have to know when to keep those comments to oneself.

Coincidently Spud is Klemmers boxing coach. Although the $50k is for charity in the fight for your life thing I think. So maybe they will

Yeah, little Hodgo, a Maroons favourite, stuffed a catch in game three in 2006 and let Lochie in under the posts. Now their is a blue great!

Oh yeah....Gunna be the best SOO in a long time this one .... I doubted the tools coaching ability in the beginning but ive never doubted him as a man ,a player etc. If he can get this bunch focused I believe they can win this and I thought QLD would do a three zip on us before the series. GO YOU GOOD BLUES....

Hodges must be able to handle himself because he's an openly aggressive and agitating player and no one has properly opened up on him. Spud was an animal so I'd back spud on the street and hodges in the ring. Same with Tallis on the street but klemmer in the ring. Tallis and spud also have there old man strength which is good for 1 min bursts.

I don't think they'll smash him, I think they'll niggle him. Some master baiters (no pun intended) in that Queensland team. They will push his buttons, meaning playing football will be the last thing on his mind. He'll give way stupid penalties, gifting Queensland field position and/or points

Yep Gordie was tough picking on little Hodgo. If it was Ben Kennedy or Luke Bailey, etc, then yeah fair play. Good work, tough. But little Hodgo. Real brave. Adam Muir sorted Gordie out.

If they've got a problem with it then smash him. Only problem is is that they can't. The QLD pack is full of soft cocks and has beens. I walked past Mel today, I should of stopped and told him. Ah well next time.
