[VIDEO] F1 Highlights: British Grand Prix blog, preview

By Jawad Yaqub / Roar Guru

The home of British motorsport will see its favourite son return to fight for the victory, in the ninth round of the 2015 Formula One world championship. Join The Roar from 9:30pm (AEST) for all the action from the British Grand Prix.

At the top of the standings Lewis Hamilton leads his Mercedes AMG teammate Nico Rosberg by 10 points, with the German having won three of the last four races.

While Rosberg is no slouch around Silverstone, with his pole position last year and 2013 race victory, all attention will converge on Hamilton in front of his adoring British supporters.

52 laps will be contested across the 5.8km Silverstone circuit. Despite the change in layout, the legendary track still maintains its flair of heritage.

Pirelli have confirmed both the hard and medium compound tyres for what is expected to be a dry race. The last time this combination was used this season was in Barcelona.

Britain’s current ‘heatwave’ will also be a factor come race day, with teams such as Ferrari being favourable challengers to perennial frontrunners – going off their pace in the equally hot conditions of Malaysia and Bahrain.

On the subject of the Scuderia, having conceded two podium places in the previous two events to Williams, they will be eyeing redemption. Kimi Räikkönen’s recent run of poor form has stirred many a negative headline regarding his future in the Prancing Horse’s stable.

While this event being a home race for the majority of the teams, Force India will look forward it more than any other as they are situated literally on site. After their double-points finish in Austria the team are bullish about their prospects of routing Red Bull this weekend, with their B-spec chassis set for its belated debut.

Red Bull Racing too eye a more positive weekend after having come away from the Red Bull Ring with a sole point courtesy of Daniel Ricciardo.

As we’ve seen in Austria and Canada, the battle in the midfield has been quite tight, and again in Silverstone the bottom half of the points should be a tough tussle between the likes of Lotus, Red Bull, Toro Rosso and Force India.

Fernando Alonso is in for another engine change after his accident with Räikkönen in Austria, but it remains to be seen whether McLaren will take penalties for their home event.

Join The Roar from 9:30pm (AEST) for build-up and live coverage of the British Grand Prix.

What much else is there to say then than WOW. Following the waves of criticism against F1, the sport delivers and the 300,000 plus crowd that went through the gates across the weekend at Silverstone showed that interest is still strong. Yes, there are areas that need addressing, but the racing is pretty far from boring! Thank you so much for joining me this evening for The Roar's coverage of the British Grand Prix. It was an absolute pleasure covering the marvel that was this race and whilst F1 will be away for three weeks, The Roar will be back on the 26th of July for the Hungarian Grand Prix. Good night.

It's difficult to decide one particular driver of the day, which is why it has to go between Hamilton and Vettel for their genius decision to pit for the intermediate tyres on the 43rd lap. There were plenty of losers from this race though, with Williams being atop that list. Räikkönen too, having changed too early for inters, losing fifth. A shout out to Merhi too, for claiming his career best finish in P12 - which unfortunately came at misfortune of his British teammate Stevens. But let's not forget the plethora of retirements also, which saw both Lotus cars, both Toro Rossos, Ricciardo and Button in his home event, all failing to see the end of the race. Remember too that post-race there will be an investigation into Grosjean's involvement with Button ending up in the gravel on lap one. What fate will Mr Mansell bestow upon the Frenchman?

PODIUM INTERVIEWS: HAMILTON - "Thank you for spurring me on." "For the first time in my career I made the right tyre choice." ROSBERG - "He made a better call with the pit-stop and that's where I lost it." VETTEL - "Without the rain we would not be on the podium," "That's England for you!" He makes a fair point because now the sun is shining at Silverstone!

P10 for Alonso also means a solitary world championship point for the Spaniard! His first of the season. But one is left to ponder what could have been if Bottas was allowed to pass Massa when he had that superior pace. Williams will clearly have some scrutiny on them following this race. In the end they didn't even finish on the podium. Double points finish for Force India too with P7 for Hulkenberg and P9 for Perez. Let's all sit back and listen to 'God Save the Queen' then and watch a flurry of spectators invade the circuit!

Surely the race of the season, even if the outcome wasn't commensurate to the promise of the opening laps?

Lap 52/52: And after a wild and adventurous race, it's LEWIS HAMILTON who wins the British Grand Prix. His third victory around the Silverstone circuit, putting him up there with the likes of Jim Clark and Nigel Mansell with three wins apiece on home soil. Nico Rosberg brings the sister Mercedes AMG home second whilst a pit-stop masterstroke from Ferrari puts Sebastian Vettel on the podium!

Until that decision to pit for inters, he was running pretty well up in fifth.

Lap 50/52: And it doesn't look like there are anymore battles left out on track either. It's just a matter of bringing the cars home for everyone - epitomised largely by Hamilton casually cruising out in the lead.

Lap 49/52: The gap is 10 seconds back to Rosberg from Hamilton. Is the result all but decided then?

Lap 48/52: FIVE LAPS REMAINING Stevens loses his front wing and concedes P12 to his teammate Merhi. A shame for the Briton at his home race. Räikkönen pits from P8 to exchange his burnt up inters for a fresh set of inters. Boy, what a disaster then for the Kimster.
