I rarely get overly excited when I do my weekly black-booking of horses on a comparative time basis, but the performance of two-year-old filly Petits Filous at Moonee Valley in the first race on July 15 certainly suggests she could be an outstanding prospect.
Her overall time of 1.00.74 over 1000 metres on a heavy surface eclipsed the 1.02.74 in the two year old colts and Geldings event.
Both the two-year-old winners that day were superior to the BM70 winner Jersey Whistler, who won at the same distance later in the day. That is an even more promising sign for Petits Filou, and rarely do you see a time disparity of this magnitude when comparing times between the same class of horse, yet alone higher class races.
Her winning margin of six lengths says enough about her performance, but another three lengths to third, and a further seven lengths to the fourth placed horse suggests that it was no race for the faint hearted.
It’s worth keeping in mind that second placed Labuan Star, and third placed Charlie Garcon both also ran superior times to their peers on the day.
Despite the fact they were well beaten, both look very capable of winning races in the not too distant future.
The star of the show was undoubtedly the winner though, and in the capable hands of young Group 1-winning trainer Ciaron Maher she looks set for a bright future, perhaps even an early Spring player?
She is sired by American horse Street Boss, said to be the fastest son of Street Cry, best known in Australia as the father of Melbourne Cup winner Shocking, and Caulfield Guineas winner Whobegotyou.
Her Dam is Excellent Lady, a half sister to the 2001 Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) winner La Bella Dama, so the chances of this filly running out a strong 1200m or further looks a formality. That breeding also suggests she can win on any track surface.
Her winning effort bears comparison to the great mare Black Caviar, who did something similar at her two-year-old debut.
It’s obviously a bit premature to be comparing her in that class, and as the old saying goes only time will tell.
Perhaps in this case it already has?

Nice find Phil congrats , although she can be rolled in the 1.000 Guineas from what I've assessed if she doesn't draw a gate .

Yeah I think visually more impressive than last time Tristan and she had to do things differently (as expected). A bit disappointing that the second horse took a bit of ground off her but then again the pace would have been hot and a backmarker was always likely to be finishing on. It will be interesting to compare times with the next 2 races. That will tell us even more about how good she is.

Yes I have 2 others in here also Blackbooked on times last start so I might take a Boxed Trifecta- The Big Dance - Moonee Valley R1 No.2 (1000m): 1000m 2yo winner Bendifo 21/03. .70 faster than BM70 CT winner Snap Esprit. Won by 2.3L Deja Blue - Moonee Valley R1 No.7 (1000m): 2yo Mdn winner Geelong 10/07 best adjusted time of day winning by 2L. .78 faster than other 2yo Mdn and she was a fillly against males This is going to be a good test for PF and we'll get a guide on how good she is. The topweight Haybah looks overs too given it's race experience and exposure to higher class

Wanted to use this discussion to show how good we have got it re free replays now. Check out the trial of PF before she raced. http://www.racing.com/form/2015-05-25/cranbourne-trn-trial/heat/6/results Goldophin filly Rillito runs 2nd and then run 3rd in first race start. http://www.racing.com/form/2015-06-14/sale/race/1/results The winner impressive and the 2nd place getter at odds. Magna Rossa Magna Rossa ran again for another 2nd place http://www.racing.com/form/2015-07-04/caulfield/race/1/results So Green Card a 2yo gelding - my 3yo to watch in the new season. The gelding ultimate gear change obviously a major improvement And Magna Rossa a geton to break her maiden!

Yes well Titch I'm not sure there are any fortunes to be made out of following it but it will be interesting to follow her progress. The placegetters might pay their way from a betting perspective though.

I've stopped telling people when our greyhounds are in, I've got no idea what they're going to decide to do when the boxes open. I suspect many of the owners you know are the same, Bondy.

I usually don't take too much notice of horses at this time of year - being a twilight zone before Spring - but if Bris says this one is worth keeping an eye on that's what I'll be doing.

Hey Bondy it might just mean they had no real clue when it would win.....just like their trainers and the rest of us! I have a blackbook and give most of them 5-6 chances and they will often win just after I get rid of them.

Tristan I should've been more precise I wasn't receiving tips from tipsters but owners of horses , they'd ring and say it'll win today and it wouldn't, when they didn't ring or mention that the horse was nom'd it would get up as we later found out , interesting friends ? ....
