Chris Masten receives two weeks for biting

By News / Wire

West Coast’s Chris Masten has been suspended two games by the AFL tribunal for biting Fremantle’s Nic Suban.

Masten’s ban follows Docker defender Alex Silvagni being outed by the tribunal for four games for his behind-play hit on Eagle Jamie Cripps.

Masten’s victim Suban has been put on a five-day antibiotic course after the incident during Sunday’s western derby in Perth.

But Masten denied biting the Fremantle player.

“Absolutely not my mouth is wedged on his forearm,” he said.

“There was no intention to bite. I must have closed it by reaction.”

Masten argued he was being roughed up by Suban but the tribunal found him guilty, suspending him for the second-placed Eagles’ next two matches.

Earlier, Silvagni was banned for four games for his elbow on West Coast’s Jamie Cripps.

Silvagni told the tribunal he was embarrassed at striking Cripps.

“It didn’t sit with me well at the time, during the game, or still now,” Silvagni said.

“As a footballer, I don’t like seeing it and I didn’t mean to do it.”

Meanwhile, Brisbane’s Luke McGuane cost himself another $500 with an unsuccessful challenge at the tribunal.

McGuane was initially fined $1000 by the match review panel for rough conduct against Carlton’s Kade Simpson.

He opted to challenge at the tribunal but the charge was upheld and McGuane was instead fined $1500.

I didn't agree with you jax. I pointed out that you were factually incorrect yet again. One persons word against another you said.... well no it wasn't. the Eagles had multiple people speaking against Suban and for Masten. You seem to be implying that Suban deliberately put his arm into Mastens open mouth. Which is a massive leap of faith and kin of a weird thing to try and do. You never once think "was it an act of sheer frustration by Masten at Subans close checking tactics throughout the game". You never once think about another side of the story (cue jax accusing me of never looking at another side of a story)

But the images of the bite mark on his arm prove he was telling the truth. Any chance Masten has lied jax?

Never commented on Silvagni, he got what he deserved. Rosich's character reference isn't worth a jot anyway. Tell me once where a character refernce has come out and said "you know what he's a bit dodgy". Which is the point of my comment - they are meaningless and should be (unless of course you are Cooney apparently) If you actually read my comment jax, which you rarely do, you will actually see my point is that the video evidence of Suban v Mitchel shows Micthell with a good handful of Subans back. Mitchell has been shown this year to push the boundaries of whats legal on field (Walker, Griffen, Fyfe) My comment was to show that the two were in conflict, both parties were having a go at each other. Sam Mitchell is no saint so to put the entire issue on Suban is a bit naive. Then you all carry on in other postsw on this topic by saying Subans got form so Masten should have gotten off. Form for what? Suban got done for the contact to Mitchell's face. Fair enough I say. But to imply that Suban goes around attempting to get bitten is one of the strangest comments I have heard on this site. I also note that the mythical players code didn't exist in this instance where Mitchell has commented afterwards about Suban's thumb is his mouth. Nor did it exist when Jeff Farmer got done for "eye gouging" Pratt years ago, nor did it exist when Harvey went to the tribunal about being pinched 300 times by Crowley ... etc etc etc Can you even see another side of a story jax?

Hey schmackos, it's the dog appreciation society that can't move on, coming out on parade and leaving their scent with plenty of barking in appreciation of all things canine in blue and yella.

In the few seconds you're going to be struggling for breath? Does he not have a nose? How wide did he have to open his mouth to get a breath? But let's blame the victim.

Sam mitchells statement at the tribunal stated "he had his thumb in my mouth which i thought was a little strange " Suban has form and west coast should havd argued that as well

So you say in under 1-2 seconds johno ,masten has supposed to have bitten suban so lets say 1 second coz thats under 2 seconds as you stated really mmmm not sure if he could have done that damage with a mouthguard in that time but its typical of the tribunal they're all over the place ,people calling for a harsher penalty if he indeed did bite suban and having watched the incident quite a few times i failed to see how he could have done it but obviously they wernt sure so They gave him 2 weeks Which brings us to the point of it your not sure , he shouldnt be suspended after all suban was the aggressor after masten had disposed of the ball And he was frustrated as they were being beaten Just really unprofessional

I wouldn't be using that photo as evidence he put his thumb in his mouth. The thumb looks like it's outside his mouth there.
