Boom!

An era ends: Harvey, Petrie, Firrito and Dal Santo denied new contracts

Forgive the humblebrag but I played against him once (U17’s) and chased leather all morning and enjoyed it all the same. His placement and timining was remarkable and you just knew he was destined for better things. If memory serves he retired so he could race off to bat at four for his first grade side.

My hat's off to Shaun Marsh

For mine Martyn was sublime. I loved watching him bat, and could happily watch his replays all day.

So you didn’t read our comments, the ones where we all said Bell had been misrepresented?

Are the Dockers about to detonate?

Hi Ryan, Bell has criticised the reporting of his comments saying that when he used the term “horrid” he was only referring to the club’s on-field performances and any suggestion that he was talking about off-field issues is untrue. I didn’t hear the interview so don’t know what’s what.

Are the Dockers about to detonate?

One of the things West Coast did so well in its early years was get the WA-based media on-side (probably wasn’t too hard given the club was the biggest story in town and everyone desperately wanted a piece of the action), the lingering result is that Fremantle has very few friends in the local press. Indeed it has a number of pretty vocal detractors who often overcook the club’s perceived or real shortcomings.

Are the Dockers about to detonate?

Hardie didn’t play for West Coast, but that aside I agree that you need to take most of what he says with a generous pinch of salt. He has fashioned himself as a straight-talking truth-teller, where the truth is he simply courts controversy by mostly talking rubbish.

Are the Dockers about to detonate?

We clearly disagree. Each to his own I guess.

Stop the premiership clock: Freo to fire in 2017

Spurr is a keeper.

Stop the premiership clock: Freo to fire in 2017

Agreed, 6-10 is their most likely finish if they improve. Of course I hope we’re wrong and they finish 1-4.

Give everyone the bye on the same week, say after round twelve, and schedule the women’s league season (I think six rounds-two-weeks-of-finals is one of the models being discussed) so that its grand final is played on the bye weekend.

But Ross had a mo for a while.

Matthew Pavlich has been a giant of the game

Great question Tim. I didn’t see enough of Glendinning at his very best (I have seen the highlights) so can’t make the call. They are both champions and the suggestion of renaming the West Coast-Fremantle best on ground medal to recognise them both is a fantastic idea.

Matthew Pavlich has been a giant of the game

He will finish with 350+ games and probably just on 700 goals. The latter is remarkable given the time he spent in the backline and midfield. How many would he have kicked if he played all 17 years as a key forward?

He’s a superstar and having met and worked with him I can confirm he’s a great bloke too.

Matthew Pavlich has been a giant of the game

I’d love to see McCarthy as the key forward target and Taberner as a high half-foward playing the run all day Riewoldt role (the kid has a massive tank). I agree Pearce might make a good forward but I’d prefer to see him replace Dawson in the backline. I hear good things about Apeness so maybe he is the third tall (if he can stay fit) and Hannath will play forward when he isn’t rucking if he ever gets a run again.

A dynasty that never was: Fremantle fades away

If they get Hooker and McCarthy (as is being heavily speculated, at least over here in the West) then I think they won’t fall too far or for too long. They are not the ANSWER, but they will allow Lyon to address some of their bigger issues.

Weller looks very good and is the most likely break out on your list. Here’s hoping.

AFL preview series: Fremantle Dockers

It’s possible.

I think Hill will play across halfback more this season (or at least I hope he does) so the 3 goals a game from the midfield will have to come from Neale, Pearce and Barlow. Again, it’s possible. I also think Crozier can kick 15-25 if he gets enough starts. He has genuine goal smarts.

AFL preview series: Fremantle Dockers

At their best I think they can get 150+ goals from Walters (35+), Pavlich (35+), Ballantyne (30+), Mayne (20+), and Taberner (20+). If they do and then get another 30-40 from Bennell, Fyfe, Barlow, Neale and D. Pearce then they’ll finish top four and be a very real contender for the flag. Fingers crossed.

You can buy Tim Tams in New York Ken. I used to get them from a store around the corner from me in Brooklyn.

Sharapova should be banned for four years

I’m with everyone else: Warne was a wonderful cricketer but is a pretty average human. And on that note I know a writer – a non-sports writer but massive cricket tragic, who worked on a book with Warne and describes him as possibly the least likeable person he has ever met.

In no particular order …

FA Cup Final (featuring Liverpool)
Boxing Day Test
Ashes Test at Lords
Melbourne Cup
FIFA World Cup Final (ideally in Europe)
Wimbledon Final (men’s or women’s)

I’ve done an AFL Grand Final (in 2013) but doing it again with my son, hopefully to see Fremantle win, is also on the list.

ROSE: My ultimate sporting bucket list

Good article Ryan. I was pretty indifferent to the BBL until my son started playing junior cricket a couple of years ago and wanted to watch it (no surprise given the entry level junior competitions are very T20 orientated). I’m now a convert and particularly enjoy how Channel 10 is handling the product. We’re based in Perth so follow the Scorchers who I think do good things off the field as well as obviously on it. I took said son (now 9) and my six year old daughter to the club’s family day yesterday and it was great to see the available players (Voges and the Marsh boys were the only absentees I think) and Justin Langer so accessible. Now my daughter wants to play cricket. Great result!

Sorry, I don’t accept that women are wilfully killing men using the apparatus of the Family Court or their priivate relationship settlements. I do accept that many men are hard done by or at least greatly aggrieved by these arrangments, but that has absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand.
